So - was in a hospital waiting room today, and they could somehow block ALL of my shooting sites!!!!
Wi-fi and 3G. Screen said all "weapon" sites were blocked. Interestingly - I could access BladeForums.
Yep - a religious hospital.

I've had this site blocked in numerous county buildings as well.

I don't understand how they could block access when connected to web via your cell provider's 3G connection. That's not the hospital's network, they can't control it. I guess unless your 3G connection at the time was actually coming from equipment that was installed on the hospital network. Something doesn't add up there.

Their WiFi network is a different matter. They own it and maintain it and can manage traffic how they wish. Last couple hospitals I've been in blocked firearms related sites on their WiFi.

This. There local networks they can control how they wish. But 3G should have been fine. Have known a number of places that would block sites like M4C and others when I went in to eat. Upon leaving I generally make abundantly clear that I will not be returning and will let those I know aware that they do not support the rights of citizens.

Odd, my .mil computer loads this site just fine. You don't want to get caught surfing porn on a government computer though.

OP had to have been on the hospital's wi-fi, not his cell service provider. Sites with certain header labels can be blocked. Google WebSense. It's the most common program for accomplishing that. The hospital where I work blocks all those sites, and others, for certain tiers of employees on their standard network, but not their public wi-fi.

Now that's cool! I remember when there were plenty of hunting and fishing magazines in the waiting rooms. Now you're lucky to see a "Sports Illustrated".

It's not really Big Brother, as the .gov isn't restricting it (yet). It's the owner of the local WiFi. As someone else said, they can have whatever filters they wish installed.

If you use their WiFi, you are subject to their terms (restricted access, loading of cookies, etc). I generally avoid a business's WiFi even if nothing is restricted. I'll use my own 3G/4G access. The only advantage to their WiFi is it's usually faster and there is no data usage "charged" to your account.

Ditto. I've all but ceased using public access WiFis. Couldn't tell you the last time I did. If I need a WiFi for my laptop or tablet, I use my mobile as a hotspot.

I cut the address label off and leave all my gun magazines in medical waiting rooms. I always walk out with a smile.

I've encountered this before...Panera and some other places used to block sites like M4c. While I don't doubt that they are personally opposed, it wouldn't surprised me if they are just using default settings on their WebSense application (as opposed to intentionally being douchebags).

Now that I'm in an area with solid Verizon XLTE coverage (with speeds over 100 Mbps at times), I don't even bother using public wifi hotspots.

Many airports across the country block this site and other gun sites from their WiFi...

This happens to Pappabear all the time. His work takes him to many hospitals and he can't surf for guns crap when he's waiting.

I can understand and even support an entities ability to control what gets transmitted through their "privately" owned equipment. Although, I pretty sure the local hospital got a huge chunk of tax $$ as incentive to build. If you're on their WIFI you go by their rules.

I find it difficult to believe that a private entity can filter what your phone picks out of the airwaves. If you're using your providers data plan (LTE, 4G...) they have no right to block access. Not sure if it's even legal for them to tamper with the data that comes to your phone without some form of legal justification. It's the same as if they were to snoop on the calls you make on your cell phone.

Random public wifi networks are a HUGE security risk.
