That's not a Magpul lower. It looks like someone just stuck a decal on the front of the magazine well.

I believe it's a LAR Mfg lower. West Jordan, UT.

What is the reason for these cutouts? Weight savings? Cool factor? Wouldn't these cutout weaken the integrity of lower?

I, too, am curious. My guess is for novelty's sake. I don't think there is much weight at all to be saved by doing this. If you want to really save weight, go for a lighter profile barrel, maybe something from Proof Research (I was positive it was a gimmick, but there is lots of feedback that they are very good barrels), a KMR handguard and some V7 parts.

I've hatched a plan to do something similar to a N4 lower I have laying around. Heres some rough mockups of the areas I want to have milled out.

Where is the manufacturer's information (city, state, name, caliber) going to be?

I'm betting if you search gunbroker, you can find similar receivers that others thought were a "good idea" & now are trying to recoup some of their money!

This won't be a home project like most of the lowers you see. Its going to be milled out by CNC then cerakoted.

Sounds interesting. Post some pics when it's complete. But does it REALLY have to be a Noveske lower?!?!?

Well, consider this, no matter what you do to that fine Noveske lower. It will never, ever, be as cool as these. Unless of course you leave it alone, but that's just me.

Wow! Those first few skeleton lowers looks likes they'll crumble with one drop.

I believe the main reason to "skeletonize" a lower receiver is in case of a "KABOOM", there isn't enough metal there for the pressure spike to blow apart the lower. All of those cutouts relieve the pressure to a safe level! :sarcastic: Seriously though, I'm just blowing smoke up someone's, and you just know there's someone out there, gullible ass!

Wow. OK, at the end of the day, to each his/her own, but these skeletonized lowers are just asking for trouble.
Objectively, the fire control and mag well are more exposed to ingress of foreign matter, the structure is weakened (although I am not sure if it is significant enough to cause issues), and yes, OK you save a tiny little bit of weight.

Subjectively, I really don't think they look cool, but at least these ones look like they were made that way purposefully:

These, on the other hand, look like a machine shop massacre.

I wouldn't use one of these if you gave it to me for free. I'd still take it though. I'd just sell it and put the money towards either non-butchered lowers or ammo.

Wow, some people shouldn't be allowed to own a drillpress. Ouch

I don't understand the point. It's not like a standard lower is heavy.

I don't get it either. But it's not my money, so whatever.

Stickman,
Do you know why Magpul won't get into making lowers as a regular item? They could sell them with their stocks and grips in a package deal. Tons of us Magpul fans would be interested in buying one. If you asked me a year or two ago, I'd have thought they'd have made their own AR15 by now.

No idea what your experience level is with the AR, but I can assure that if you attempt to use a hacked up lower like that it would allow foreign matter to get into places it shouldn't.

The cut outs are purely cosmetic. Removing any structural metal from the lower will always weaken it, but I don't see these cut outs being an issue.

Bingo....from my experience items like a skeletonized lower are built to be show pieces, to grab attention.

if you need a lower that grabs attention and is 'skeletonized' and isnt opened up to the dirt, sand, etc then maybe 'the jack' from sharps brothers would satisfy those criteria for you.

lighter?... maybe not.
