Finally have a decent car and being in Florida i am looking at getting some window tint to cut down on the heat and glare. I understand the laws, the different percentages of VLT and that most people agree that getting the same percentage is best. But theres not a whole lot of info on the different shades/colors/mirroring and if having your front windows at a different percentage then your rear windows looks good.
Looking for pictures, experiences, best brands and favorite layouts.

My old truck had 20% on all the windows except the windshield. This pic is relevant.

20% FTW. I never had tint on windows until I got this car, and I really enjoy it now. So much more privacy this way.
ETA: driver and passenger side windows done, left and right rear windows, and rear window. Rear window and rear windows are slightly darker than the front. Front window no tint and no strip.

This cannot be said enough.

LOL, same here. I'll never go above 20% on the front. Usually 5% on the rears.

Florida is 28% for the front windows. I'd do it 30% all the way around to avoid any hassle from LE, and because 2-tone tint is just ugly.
I wouldn't go crazy dark with it, and I do not care fore the strips across the top of the windshield that's what sunglasses are for.

Yeah once I get my new truck in a week or two I'm just gonna do 50% on the front windows and leave the back stock. Think it's around 35% but not sure.
Really dark tint gets old after a while, especially when driving at night.

Thats what most people seem to agree on.
Any opinions on different colors or mirror styles or is plain black the best?
Any brands to stay away from?

For God's sake plain black.

I went with this film. It is (I selectived Limo) dark and may interfere with AM radio frequencies but it is extremely durable and cooled down the interior significantly.
My cost for film and labor was $220.00 (5 windows Sedan). Not cheap but holds-up really well.

Seriously though, the mirror tint fades quickly and develops a yellowish tinge.

Legal up front. 5% all around on back. 5% brow.
I hate the DOT tint restrictions... Id love to have front tint on my semi or my one ton...
Though I don't have a picture I run 15% tint on all windows except the front, of course.
I have yet to have it mentioned by a LEO, nor have I ever been pulled over so go figure... My brother on the other hand runs with 5% tint and to me that is just too dark. Keep in mind that the darker you go, the harder to see it will be at night! This is something I had not fully considered before committing, but to be honest 15% is the sweet spot to me and I will be doing it to all of my future vehicles because despite the ticket risk, it is worth it. Granted MO laws may be different than FL as well.
Being in the south I'd check out 3M ceramic window tint. We had it in our last car and it really is effective against heat. Our current car tint is much darker but not as effective blocking heat / uv.
when I had my last car done went with Huper Optik ceramic tint but here in AZ have to say WOW it really worked extremely well
so would check into the ceramic tints for sure if you are doing it to keep heat out either the 3m as mentioned or the huper

Llumar 20% - Does not fade, protects against heat, glare and UV.
The 3M tint seems to be the best and the lifetime warranty sure helps a ton. I had my car done professionally instead of doing it myself. I am pretty sure that this is 32% all around....

3m 20% matches oem tinted glass really well.
Do them all the same and in black. LE generally doesn't hassle for tint down here.

Unless it's 4am and you're leaving a bar district...
I refuse to give LE a reason to stop my car any time they feel like it. It's not the ticket that worries me, it's the harassment on the side of the road that is something I'd like to avoid.
I don't like it dark, since I do a lot of night/early morning driving, so i went with Llumar Air Blue 80 all around. Same UV/heat reduction benefits as darker tints, but with a very slight blue tint instead. I'm not saying one should do it to the windshield, as that might technically be illegal, but if someone were to do it it's hard to tell. That would theoretically give you the same 99% UV protection on all of the glass, though.

That's exactly why I'm gonna go with 50% on my new truck. I never got hassled when I had 20%, and that was like 6 years with that truck. I just don't want to give them a reason to hassle me.

Thanks for all the replies and suggestions. I have decided to go with 3M color stable tint at 30%.

Hasslers gonna hassle no matter what.
Good choice, and 3M makes a good product.

15% Pinnacle ceramic tint. It's dark but keeps the car nice and cool during the summer. If you have a back up camera, parking at night isn't really a problem with darker tint.
