Any HK P2000 fans here? You always see USP or P30 fans, but not so much about the P2000....

I've bought 4 handguns recently - a Hk P2000 9mm DA/SA, PX4 Compact 9mm, P2000sk DA/SA 9mm and a Glock 17 Gen 4... All in the past 6 weeks. I will say that the P2000 is my favorite of the 4, and I think it's my fav polymer handgun I have (I have a few others too).

I will admit that the DA pull on the PX4 is a little better, but I do fine with the P2000. It feels great in the hand as well, and it shoots very well. I've owned 8 HK models over the years (I had a P2000 a few years ago - and have owned a HK USP9, USPc 9, USPc 45, HK45, HK45c, P30L and have the P2000sk now), and the P2000 is hands down my favorite HK handgun.

I wanted to move up from my 9mm Shield as my carry gun - to something larger. But with back issues, I couldn't go too large, as too much weight on my hip irritates a back problem I have. I had planned to alternate the PX4 compact and P2000 as carry guns, with occasional use of the P2000sk as a pocket gun in my cargo pants, instead of carrying the Shield. Hell, I'm carrying the P2000 every day instead :)

With the hogue Jr grip, it just feels perfect in my hands. And, I like having something with more rounds than the Shield.

I've always wanted a P2k. They seem like a perfect sized carry pistol.

I have a v2 model and it is my EDC until we get a scaled down p30 or vp9. I love mine.

What brand of holster is that?

I'll trade you a 9mm P2K for that Gen4 17 you just bought.... :0

A very under-rated HK pistol indeed. It has a little known advantage of being able to accept the 15-round P30/VP9 magazines, of which there also exist extensions for 20-30 rounds. I'd also suggest the extended magazine release (from the HK45C).

Hahaha. Normally I would take you up on that, but I bought it for local USPSA and IPDA matches that I want to start in (this past Saturday would have been my first match, but it got rained out). I have other guns, but not all are carry guns. I tend to always want something else, and I will sell a gun t buy something else I want more. So, I don't holster all my guns for that reason. So, some guns I don't want to use for a competition.

Anyway, I bought the Glock to compete with because I think it will be a little harder to compete with a DA/SA with a shorter barrel (like the p2000). If not for that, I probably would not have bought the Glock. I also got the homeland security discount, so the Glock was only $425 for me. That made the choice even easier.

Thanks. I like the way it looks. I will have to check that out.

If you are competing in IDPA, use your EDC. Unlike IPSC and USPSA, IDPA is meant for actual practical shooting under stress and not the game.

A P2K is my next gun since HK is dropping the prices on them.

I've been back and forth on P2000SK for a while. Every time I convince myself to get one, I look at it and hold it and realize it's just not THAT much smaller than my P30 and won't really conceal any better.

Anyone out there have both and think the same or otherwise? I really want to like the P2000SK.

I carry AIWB in a Garrett ST if that helps or makes a difference at all.

That's like saying that a G19 won't conceal any better than a G17. It's been proven that it will. If you are of a bigger frame/size/build then hiding a bigger gun might be perfectly viable for you. However if you are smaller/average then it could be anything from doable but a pain to flat out impossible. A p2000sk is a night and day difference for someone my size.

Well, the IDPA match, that would have been my first, was rained out this past Sat. I'll be going to a local USPSA one this weekend, though. My plan was to run a couple of matches with the Glock to get a feel for it and the whole match thing. Then yea - I DO want to try my P2000 at least one time. I want to see how I do compared to the Glock.

The prices for the P2000 and P2000sks have really come down. I picked up a P2000sk too. I like the fullsize one more, but it is a nice gun. I plan to pocket carry it in my cargo pants in times where I would have pocket carried my Shield. In the cargo pants, the pockets are easily big enough. But, I probably won't use it that much compared to the regular P2000.

The P2000sk slide is at HK right now, getting factory night sights installed on it. They said a 2 week turn around, so hopefully I'll get it back sometime next week.

Aside from less targets, boring stage designs, obese people wearing 5.11 gear and vests, hip carry only, a more generous head box, and in general being an easier game, they're the same game.

Shooting fast and getting hits...

I kinda agree and kinda disagree. For me, added concealment doesn't come from slide or grip length, but rather from grip width when wearing a more fitted t shirt in summertime. The P30 and SK are very similar in width.

I really want to test one out but can't find a dealer that's really ok with me sticking one down my pants.

Anyways, I've drifted this thread far enough and was hoping to get some definitive feedback from users. I do appreciate the responses!

It really is situational and body type /clothing dependent. Width is definitely one of the bigger factors but for me at least grip length can be a huge deal at times. I plan to pick up a p2000sk some day as a more compact counter part to my VP9. The G19 /G26 combination works great for me but I'm starting to get into HK's now.

How do you like the light? I refuse to use one of there laser ones (not really a laser guy to begin with) but the light seems like it would work well for concealment.

Shiloh range in Houston does weekly matches in Houston (too far away for me to bother), but come to the Hempstead area once a month for an IDPA match.

And locally, or nearby... Gunsmoke range in Snook has USPSA matches 1x a month.

I just recently picked up a P2000 DA/SA as well. It is now my favorite pistol after having tried Glocks, M&Ps, a P30, and XDMs. I also like the DA/SA. Strangely it helps me focus and not get loose with my shots.

I've had a 9mm P2000 DA/SA now for several years---it's one of my all-time favorite pistols---the size is "just right"---shoots like a full-size pistol---of course, it never jams---carry it in a Galco "Concealable" model holster---holds the gun nice and tight to the body. A really mint used P2000sk ("light" LEM) drifted by, so I bought it too---why not??
