View Full Version : W748 / Hornady 75g OTM
Just bought a lb. of W748 and a box of 100 H. 75g. OTM bullets but for the life of me I cannot find ANY load data using the two. Is it just me or is this combo a no go??? Any thoughts?
If your bullet 75gr OTM is the same as 75gr HPBT item #2279
Here is your reloading data.
Hornady's #9 reloading manual
page 156
223 Remington Service Rifle Data
Hornady 75gr. BTHP #2279
Winchester 748 powder
starting load 20.2 gr. @ 2200fps max 23.3 gr. @ 2600fps
I have sent a message to Hornady to check to make sure the bullet you are calling 75gr OTM is indeed the same bullet as the 75gr. HPBT item #2279, I should get an answer on Monday.

Hornady 75gr. HPBT item #2279
winchester 748 powder
Starting Load 22.4gr @2500fps max 25.1 @ 2800fps
Thank you so much. Thought I'd have to wait until Mon. to change out my powder as my reloading supply guy is closed on the weekend. Now the fun begins.:)
Is the item number on your box of bullets #2279????
Colt Guy, I just looked @ the box that the bullets came in and it reads; 75gr BTHP #2279. I asked the guy at the store for Hornady 75gr OTM and this is what he gave me. I wonder if there is a diff. in the two?
Again, thanks. Your info really helped. The Hornady loading manual is next on my list.
I am betting that 75gr. OTM {open top Match} and 75gr BTHP are one in the same when using loading data. I have asked the question to Hornady and should have answer on Monday.
I have seen this before with Hornady when loading V-max and Z-max bullets, same bullet different colored tips and different names.

I always thought OTM was the military's way of saying hollow point with out saying hollow point??
Just to make sure joker, i didnt see it any were..The box does say Hornady right??
Grab yourself the Hornady #9 reload manual since it seems Hornady bullets are sold by everyone now, even Academy...
I also didnt see a COAL that seems like it would be important with a OTM bullets.
Here's the replay from Hornady
Thank you for contacting us. Hornady Manufacturing only makes (2) 75gr bullets in 22 caliber; the BTHP and the A-Max. Therefore, if you have seen an advertisement for a Hornady projectile as an Open Tip Match, then yes, it is indeed the same projectile and will feature the same item number. I hope this clears it up. Thanks again,
