Friends, Romans, countrymen of M4C

UPDATE: 1/22/20: my new Novella, Old And Angry (https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0844KJ7R2/ref=sr_1_1?) is now out! It's a spin off from my Vacation Gone South series, so anyone who enjoyed that series should enjoy this one too.

Get it via Amazon HERE. (https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0844KJ7R2/ref=sr_1_1?)

UPDATE: 4/6/18: For those who don't read ebooks, here is the entire series to date as a print volume HERE (https://www.amazon.com/dp/1980617597/ref=la_B0076LCMKC_1_15?s=books&ie=UTF8&qid=1523070058&sr=1-15&refinements=p_82%3AB0076LCMKC)

I have just completed my first novella length fiction story. It's a about two buddies from the covert mil/spook community who go on some needed R&R, and things go "south" from there. I used my personal knowledge of Panama City Panama as the back drop for this story. I'd be honored and appreciative if some of you would give it a read.

It is a work of fiction to be sure, so keep that, and the intended audience, in mind when reading, but I did my best to find a balance. Feedback from the BTDT types here - as well as just fans of the hard boiled action adventure story of the ilk - would be very helpful left on Amazon as that has a big effect on ratings and sales.

Remember, you don't need a Kindle reader as Amazon has a free app reader for any platform which people will see offered on the same page as the book.

I read Kindle books on my Mac laptop usually for example.

UPDATE: Audio Book version now exists for part I HERE (https://www.amazon.com/Vacation-Gone-South-A-Novella/dp/B00VPC7PPK/) as well as iTunes.

The book can be found HERE (http://www.amazon.com/dp/B00VPC7PPK) if interested. I look forward to your feedback.

UPDATE: Book II "Welcome To The Jungle" can now be found HERE (http://www.amazon.com/VACATION-GONE-SOUTH-Novella-Welcome-ebook/dp/B011JDNOZE/)

UPDATE: Book III "No Quarter Given" can now be found HERE (https://www.amazon.com/Vacation-Gone-South-III-Quarter-ebook/dp/B01LWXP0Z1/)

UPDATE: Book IV "A Dead Man Walking" can be found HERE (https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0762BHCJ2/ref=la_B0076LCMKC_1_13)

UPDATE: I will be donating proceeds from book I to the H.E.R.O. Child-Rescue Corps (http://herocorps.us/). The H.E.R.O. Child-Rescue Corps trains vets to track and help capture those who abuse children. There's a very powerful vid people can watch to get a better idea of what they do and how they do it. Hopefully I can send solid donations to them.

It wasn't long enough.
Even so it was a good read. Enjoyed wink's interactions with the reader and hopefully you decide to continue the story.

Thank you. It's intended to be novella length (a long story or really short book) that hopefully can be a series if people like the first one enough to do more. Like doing one chapter at a time kinda thing :)

Do me a big favor please, and leave your review at the amazon page. That makes a huge difference on rating on Amazon and sales if rated well.

Indeed it can. I have probably 5 half done stories I started years ago I never finished. That is to say, I have been trying to do some fiction for a long time now!

I've been very curious about what is the process for having a book published on Amazon.

It ranges from people who go the cheap route doing it themselves, to having someone do it who knows the process. People who do it themselves, unless tech savvy, often looks bad, or does not auto format to different readers, etc.

Loved it. Highly positive review posted- looks like I was the first one to the party this time :)

Solid play, Will. It's definitely above average for the genre. Loved the pop-fiction references, and the slightly irreverent reader interaction. Watch out for too much explanation of why the hero does things a certain way as that could be easily overplayed, but in this case it worked very well for the way you told the story. I like that you didn't answer everything by the end- it only enhanced the realism for me. I look forward to reading more.

Here's the first review from an established author. Jason is also retired SOF who became a successful sci fi/fantasy writer.

"This is an ironic title to me. The intent was a review of the novella written by a friend of mine with the title, Vacation Gone South. The sentiment is happening to my family as I write this – my wife and children are on a mini-vacation helping to bring my in-laws back from Florida and allergies, strep throat, a smashed finger, pinkeye (in both eyes) and exhausted children have made it a trying time for them.

But that’s not why we’re here. This is about Will Brink‘s book, Vacation Gone South. The book is about a former elite Special Operator trying to enjoy a vacation with a work buddy in Panama when things go suddenly and wildly wrong. Bullets fly, people are getting hurt, and mixed throughout is the perfect dose of humor and educational introspection.

I’m going to be the first one to admit that I was pleasantly surprised. Oh sure, I know Will has a history of training and working with all sorts of military and paramilitary organizations in his role as an exercise and nutritional guru (in fact, that’s how I met him), but I wasn’t sure how writing fiction was going to work out for him. To my delight, he delivered a solid hook with the first sentence and the story just kept on swinging until the bell was wrung.

To me the go-to writers for espionage and action and intrigue are people like Robert Ludlum. Mix in some Tom Clancy and Clive Cussler for good measure and there are some quality stories to be read. Vacation Gone South keeps the entertainment value on par with those guys and adds in some tradecraft and basic “howto” style tips along the way in an internal running dialogue. It made for a light, fast paced, and very fun read that I had a hard time putting down.

My recommendation? Try it out! You won’t be disappointed. Sure, I may count the man a friend and that might make me biased, but you wouldn’t believe the number of stories I am asked to read that I just can’t make it past the first few paragraphs on. Vacation Gone South delivered the entire way through. In fact, I think I only found one typographical error throughout, which proves that he really took this seriously and got a quality copyeditor.

I’m looking forward to more in this series – there are unanswered questions just begging a sequel… or many!"

I know this genre is almost exclusively a male readership, so it warmed my dark testosterone infused heart to have a gal leave a review:

"Hits you like a blast from a Kalashnikov. Brink's writing style sucks you right in to the story from the opening paragraph and does not let up until the final page. Once you get to the end, you will find yourself wanting more. Will Brink, we are waiting on you, sir." - Renee Micellion April 10, 2015

Folks, I just sent my first donation of the proceeds for this book to the he H.E.R.O. Child-Rescue Corps per above. I wish it was far more! The book is doing well, and reviews have been even better than I expected (see some HERE) (http://www.amazon.com/VACATION-GONE-SOUTH-Will-Brink-ebook/product-reviews/B00VPC7PPK/ref=dp_top_cm_cr_acr_txt?ie=UTF8&showViewpoints=1), but at .99 cost, and profits to me of .35, well, you have to sell a lot of books to accumulate some real $$.

I hope you'll check it out and I'm looking forward to feedback from a number of members out there still reading it. Here's what the team at sent me, which is far more than I expected:

Sir,

I enjoyed the story and will buy future installments, nice job creating "a hook". I want to know more.
I was disappointed when it ended.

IMO, at times too heavy pushing skill-sets & gear, could tone that down a bit to let the story flow. It pushed me out of being immersed in the story. I felt like I was reading a Sgt Rock comic book in some paragraphs.

I enjoyed the gunfight scene towards the end, well done, I found myself re-reading it to absorb how well you made it flow, very nice pace. Also liked the slight twist having DSGE pick him up, I didn't expect French in Panama.

I did like the character's self-awareness of human vulnerability moments you created. Even Billy Badass can have bad karma & catch a bullet or get his butt kicked. That was an aspect in Richard Marcinko's first book that created character depth, the big tough operator splitting his nose on a door-jamb, I remember that vivid paragraph.

Looking forward to the next installment.

Respectfully
RFA

It's a pretty straight forward process. As long as you follow their formatting recs, etc, it's GTG. I don't do the technical aspects of putting the books together and converting it to the format they want (Mobi file I recall) but once I have the file done, I do the uploading etc. If you're interested in having an ebook put up, I do have a service for that. See Publishing Services (http://www.brinkconsultinggroup.com/publishing-services-2/) on my B2B site.

New review:

"Vacation Gone South," picked up where the first installment left off. Didn't skip a beat. Great plot. Fast paced. The main character, Wink, is a tough guy with intelligence, and has many interesting things to say. So while entertaining, the book is also surprisingly informative. Wink's knowledge of Special Ops is eye-popping, but his observations about the history, culture and and geography of Panama are also surprisingly engaging. Wink is a Rambo with brains, which makes the book a fun and fascinating read. I recommend it." - Plato Popeye on September 5, 2015

I finished II the other day and dug it, especially the ending. I like the above idea!

Left a review on Amazon--

This is good stuff for when you might not be in the mood for something heavy-- it's good action-packed, keeps-rolling, what-happens-next reading. In other words, it's what reading is supposed to be-- fun. The self deprecating voice it is written in keeps it from getting too heavy and heroic, and technically speaking I find it spot-on, at least with regards to some of the things I have experience with.

The surprise ending was clearly a shameless hook for the next in the series which totally worked on me, I'm waiting for it!

Top rated sci fi/fantasy writer and ret. SOF Jason Halstead (http://www.amazon.com/Jason-Halstead/e/B0049AXHP2/) review of VGS II:

"Mr. Brink knows how to hook you in and keep the story moving. I stayed up too late reading this one night and when I realized my eyes weren't working right I put it down, only to start right up the next morning on a camping trip. I was disappointed when it ended - not by what happened, but because it ended! The main character was great and fun. The supporting characters did a good job, and included a couple of surprises that I really enjoyed. Good story, good moral to the story, and overall a lot of fun."

Gents (and lurking ladies), Navy SEAL Commander (ret) Mark Divine reviews my Novella Vacation Gone South via NavySEALs.com. Please check it out!

"Vacation Gone South, is about a couple of SOF buddies from a Special Mission Unit who take some down time in Panama. Things “go south” when one goes missing and things spiral out of control. Will is attentive to small and important details of tradecraft that authors in this genre often miss, and he writes without a Rambo-esque bravado or non-stop, incredulous action. It’s realistic and engaging."

Saw you postings in GD about this.

Purchased #1. Read it and really enjoyed it. A couple typos, but far better than a lot of the books/sotries available for the same price.

Thanks for creating such an entertaining story, will be going for 2 and 3 as soon as possible.

Finally gotten full momentum on VGS III. The draft is with my trusty editor, and this time I have a cover photo made specifically for the book! I'm stoked about that. Photographer is a M4C member (Dsully) and his many kick ass gun guy photos found here:

http://sully.photography/

Cover for VGS II was a photo he allowed me to use from his preexisting work. With some basic ideas I threw at him for topic, he made this photo for VGS III. Now, I have to get graphics person to work with it, add title info, etc. I recall some members had suggestions for the cover last time and even put up some examples of what they thought would look better than what I used for lettering etc last time, so if you have an interest to put up some ideas, and I like it, others here like it, etc, I'll use it. What do you think?

You know, I was looking at his stuff and saw that pic and remember thinking that, while a fantastic image, it was so outside the subject matter of the other gun-only images...

But it now makes perfect sense, and is an excellent choice for the novella.

I'll have to check it out.

Will...

I tried to get the VGS from Amazon, it said my OS was not supported.

Not being particularly sophisticated re: Internet and devices myself, do you know if there is another outlet to get it? Or do I need to buy a kindle?

I guess what I'm really asking, do you know how I can get the darn thing on my iPhone?

Right on the page you find the book, right below the cover pick it says "read on any device" Download FREE app that fits platform you're trying to read it on, and you're GTG. I read them on my Mac lap top.

Here's a new review I'm proud of because it comes from a top rated author who was a PJ in a prior life:

Will didn't disappoint with the 3rd part in his Vacation Gone South ...
By Jason Halstead on October 17, 2016

"Will didn't disappoint with the 3rd part in his Vacation Gone South spec-ops thriller. As before, he mixes a fast pace with witty introspection and insight into the spec-ops community that is sorely lacking (mostly because said members don't, and can't, talk about it). I was beginning to wonder about a few things from prior books - asking myself if they were going to show up in this one or not, when he twisted the story around and bam - there it is!

For the largest installment yet in the series, I have to say it was very well done. Each installment gets better and better, from the way the story moves as well as the writing of the story. I'm looking forward to finding out what happens next."

His main character is a smart guy who says a lot of smart things

By Boston Boy on January 23, 2017 (https://www.amazon.com/review/R39KMJPDL59FEN/ref=cm_cr_dp_title?ie=UTF8&ASIN=B01LWXP0Z1&channel=detail-glance&nodeID=283155&store=books)

"This third book in the 'Vacation Gone South' series continues to be a fast-past, action adventure. Yes, there's all the guts and guns, twists and turns, you'd expect in a book about Special Ops, but Brink also brings to the narrative a depth of knowledge and interesting insights about all manner of subjects . His main character is a smart guy who says a lot of smart things. It's a quick read, worth every minute."

Will Your writing style has grown with each book, they have gotten easier to read as you have gone along.

To be brutally honest the first book at one point in time I almost stopped reading it. It just didn't flow that well for me. The second book was much better. The next books showed a maturing of you as a writer and I very much enjoyed the flow of the book and reading it was a joy and fulfilled why I read books. Books like yours are an escape from work for me, I want to go into a world that focus my brain on that little world in the book and let my business issues fall away. I had a friend back in the day that during the intifadas would read romance novels. It always cracked me up, a fighter in Israels' most elite anti terror unit during the few breaks we would get would pull out a romance novel that was geared for women readers. He would smile and say I am now in a world of bubble baths with beautiful sexy women and that is as far from this shit as I can get. I never got into romance books, but books are a great escape and I look forward to more books from you.

I'm glad you did get through the first one to continue with the series. In my mind, the first one was really his thoughts as they happened in real time under bad circumstances, which was not smoothed out for the reader, if that makes sense. The rest, I tried to take a step back from that "style" and smooth it out. I like II the most in the series personally story wise and it was the most fun to write. I wanted a level of detail and realism that would make, gun guys, the BTDT of the world, etc, happy, and (hopefully) offer something to the genre others have not.

BTW, my mother wrote a romance novel that did well and the publisher, Dell, wanted her to write more of them, but she didn't want to do another. Was called Tropic Of Terror.

They are E only currently. I do find the dedicated E readers like Nook etc much better on the eyes and more book like reading experience, but I do read them on my lap top too. Might put all 4 together and do as a print book some time. Try #1 and see how it goes. It's a novella, so a quick read.

5.0 out of 5 stars. Another thrill ride!

"After swallowing parts 1 through 3 without pausing, I was worried part 4 was finally going to fall short of the mark. Not only was my fear unnecessary, but the bar has been upped!

Wink’s fourth story somehow manages slightly less action while maintaining the edge of your seat feel. On top of the thrill ride, a lot of questions and details are filled in, which satisfied me on more levels than I realized I wanted.

Final verdict: great read!"

Part 1 of my highly rated series, is FREE today and the next 4 days. Here's some excerpts from reviews I grabbed:

"The litmus test for me for a good fiction yarn is if it makes me feel like I’m actually there in the action, and Vacation Gone South passes that test with flying colors." - US Navy SEAL Commander (ret) Mark Divine

5 out of 5 stars…”Great action, gun style folks will have ah hah moments left and right. Very on point with description of certain tactics. I was hooked and look forward to the next”

“AN AWESOME BOOK!!! A true page turner and loved the details!”

“… another home run. He is truly one of the better up-and-coming writers of the thriller-fantasy genre. People will be saying "I bought Brink before he became huge" some day soon.

“Excellent! If you like military fiction but despise people getting the important details wrong... this is for you. Once again, I finish a Will Brink book and immediately want to read another one.”

“Awesome, gritty, edge of my seat.”

“Finally! None of the clueless bs that turns most action fiction into wallbangers.( Wallbangers are books you throw against a wall while wondering why you bought it)”

“…he mixes a fast pace with witty introspection and insight into the spec-ops community that is sorely lacking (mostly because said members don't, and can't, talk about it).”

“…Brink also brings to the narrative a depth of knowledge and interesting insights about all manner of subjects . His main character is a smart guy who says a lot of smart things.”

“I enjoy the authors ability to blend his story and factually correct methods of warfare into a beautiful story. Wink is a true Light Fighter.”

Best Selling Thriller author and CT intelligence specialist, J.T. Patten, reviews Vacation Gone South:

"...It’s the little things that matter in a good military thriller and this is chock full of military jargon that just naturally rolls off the character’s tongue like the lead spills from his “blaster.” You won’t be disappointed"

Gritty vivid characters. Page turner!

A new review for Vacation Gone South: Collected Works:

5.0 out of 5 stars

July 12, 2018

"Being retired Army and Army civilian, I bleed Army Green, so I really enjoy action novels about active, former active and/or retired Special Forces of all Services"... "I read many authors in this genre and can state that Mr. Brink’s literary style compares very favorably with the top authors that I have read. His research into the SF mindset is right on and his depiction of nonstop action keeps my interest throughout the entire book(s). I hope that Mr. Brink keeps churning out these thrillers and I will stand in line with many others to buy them."

Thanx brother! Please leave a review at Amazon if/when you get a chance as it's essential to ranking and sales. I really hope you jump to 4th in the series, as it does conclude the ultimate fate of Tony...

PS, just returned from Panama yesterday in fact. Needed to do more "research" for the series...I'm thinking Wink and crew will need to go to Colombia to face shoot his way through Bogota and Cali.

Some really cool new reviews. First from Mindy Robinson. If you all saw Range 15 with Mat Best and crew (and I know you did!), Mindy was in that movie along with others. She's developed a big social media following as a conservative personality and such. On her Twitter feed with my book:

https://twitter.com/iheartmindy/status/1103845235824635905

What she says:

"If you’re looking for a good read AND want to support our veterans, check out my friend Will Brink’s book “Vacation Gone South.” I cant put it down!"

Also, Colonel Daniel Markert left this review on the Amazon page:

"A mystery/action/thriller with a compelling story line with good character development. A bit preachy at times, but minimally distracting from a story thread that keeps you guessing as to what is really going on and compels you to keep reading. Plenty of gritty details on unconventional SOF operations that keep the fiction flowing. Characters are well developed and made me want to read follow on stories about them. A great read for spring break or lazy summer days."

Cool interview with Colonel Markert just returned from Afghanistan:

Colonel Daniel Markert, G3 Operations Officer, speaks on his role in the success in neutralizing an enemy stronghold in the southern region of Afghanistan during an interview at Fort Hood, Texas, March 2. A lot of people do get shot in the the series, so a little foot focus could be the distraction readers crave from all the face shooting and salty language.

Thanx for the reviews. "Welcome to the Jungle" is my favorite too, but I'm a tad biased. I'm in Panama right now and the only place I have not actually been to that's in the VGS series, is The Gap. One of these trips I will get there, but one does not go to The Gap without proper guides and do so lightly. The Gap is legit.

If you decide to incorporate the black former paratrooper rogue who uses a FAMAE SG 542 clone and has silver dyed hair; remember that he is from the Bluff originally and he met his tranny girlfriend/sadistic partner in crime at a strip club whereupon he paid extra for foot stuff. Also she is a serial killer. And forget the MAT 49. She keeps a Mini UZI in her Hello Kitty ruck and she has a betty page and is white. Top surgery only, not full. That is important.

Also work in Love Contras with LMTs.

Thanks. Would totally read.

Feedback time. What do you all think of this write up for the new story? Seems a bit clunky to me, but not quite putting my finger on it. Goal is to make it compelling to read without giving away the good stuff. One issue I have is the author gives away too much info in the write up to get people interested, but gives away the whole damn story. Here's what I have so far:

"Paul is a Vietnam vet, ex cop, on and off CIA contractor who has been around the block more then a few times. He left the work a long time ago, but the trouble found him at his favorite bar on his 74th birthday. The drunk kid he ejects from the bar that night is found dead the next day and Paul's well honed instincts and experience tell him it's not due to the causes the police claim.

What started out as a simple birthday at his favorite bar quickly turns into an investigation of a young dead Army Ranger that exposes connections to the Russian mob, Russian intelligence services and dark forces working right inside the heart of the US not miles from the the White House.

Paul is no stranger to working under less than ideal circumstances and austere locations in far away places with no backup and no help if things go FUBAR, but he never expected to be doing it in his own country.

Along with his old friend Jake, owner of Jake's Place Bar, retired Vietnam era SEAL, and all around lunatic, Paul and Jake embark on what's likely their last mission.

These are old school warriors of a different era, and come hell or high water, they're willing to pay what ever price necessary to get to the bottom of the Ranger's death, and take out whom ever was responsible for it, or die trying."

I said "bases on" vs biographical! Actually, Paul is a buddy of mine who was an LRRP in Vietnam so that's who I based the character off of. The dead Ranger is actually an Army Col. I know.

A NYC cop told me when I was a kid back in the day that saps took the fight out of people rapidly and it was his favorite "A hole control" option.

I have carried a sap in Middle East, Africa, Europe, Africa, Caribbean, and USA. I have used it in all those place but the Caribbean, I have only pulled a weapon in the Caribbean a few times all in the Republica Dominicana and all due to owning a farm there. yoni
01-23-20, 11:00
I don't have a preference other than heavy, as possible.

I have shorter and lighter saps that fit better in a suit or dress pants, then I have a 14oz beast for jeans of military style pants.

Mission dictates everything. I have my favorite cosmic blaster, but if it ruins the lines of my suit and everyone knows I am carrying it, then that isn't the right pistol to carry. Where in my nice suits a HK P7 might be a better choice. I think the same thing holds with saps and blackjacks.

I don't buy any of the nice ones, since they might get thrown in a ditch somewhere and a $30 14 oz sap hits just as hard as a 14oz $100 custom made beauty.

Some times you want the beauty queen besides you, other times the biker bitch is who you need besides you. Had different Speznats guys tell me that more than once.
Africa and other places I tend to not carry high end equipment, I carry good stuff just not big money. My $4000 Hi Power stays at home and I take a CZ or Glock.

Regarding the knife at the throat of the mob hitter, he was dating the sister of my manager for my farm in the DR and was working for me as the foreman. On a trip out of the DR the day I left he stole about $75 bucks from me. My phone went off like the NoKo's had an incoming nuke to the USA. I told the manager to fire him. Which they did, the killer started calling me like crazy. I never answered him.
I told everyone in the family, that I had not made up my mind on if I was going to pay the Colonel in the district police, so I could kill him or not.
My phone blew up even more from him, never answered.
A month later I was back in the DR, never sought him out. One day while he was away from his house out in the country I rode my dirt bike out to his house. About 1.5 miles from his house in the hills, I pulled my bike way off the road and laid it over. I put on a half assed ghillie suit I had made down there, because even though I didn't have a rifle I was still a sniper in my soul. So I ingresses to his little home right up to the front door and stick a crossbow bolt in his front door. Egress my ass out, and go home.

I knew this would eat at him and he would seek me out, on my terms in the town.

Two days later when I come out of the gym he is waiting for me. I approach him with a big smile on my face. Mi Hermano, I thought about killing you, as my knife came out and up to his throat the point inside skin and blood flowing. I then continued,I stopped thinking with my heart and let my brain and soul take over. I am not going to kill you, I am going to hire a new foreman. In a year he will be driving a new Toyota HiLux, living in the free house on my farm that you used to live in. I want you to curse the fact that you are struggling every day, I want you to curse your parents for having made such a stupid little boy. You see mi hermano, I am Yehudio diablo, you think your tough because you have murdered 39 people by popular count. If I ever see you again, I will kill you on the spot. Have a good rest of the day and a life in your self made hell.

I then pulled the knife from his throat, and watched him ride away on his motorcycle.

He was arrested for murder about 6 months after that and will sit decades in prison.

I guess that's what passes for a happy ending in the DR. I have to admit, it's never been high on my list of places to visit unless doing so with someone who knows what's what. I lived in St Thomas for a time later 70s, and it made Brooklyn look safe by comparison, and that was not the worst of them. Not sure if those island are much better today. DR, Jamaica and others highly murderee places as you're well aware.

If you go to the tourist places on any of the islands you will be safe, as long you drink the same hard alcohol as the natives.

But run around gathering intel, hunting terrorist and other bad guys it can get fun fast. Own a farm and it is somewhere in between what I imagine an all inclusive resort to be like, never stayed in one, and hunting bad guys. For a little while, they thought I was a gringo, like all touristo gringos. Which meant I got to deal with the stupidest things. People trying to go onto the farm at night to steal my picked crops, Night Vision, 12 ga pump sawed off shotgun, crossbow, and a 11.5 inch bowie knife solved those problems.

Every 14 to 28 year old female hitting on me, because guess what the town had 2 gringos. One from Europe that has a thing for 13 to 14 year old girls and me. So I could be sitting on my font porch working with lap top and cell phone and have 14 year old girls offering sex for my cell phone. Which was either a blackmail attempt, the gringo has sex with the girl and the family threatens to go to the police unless you pay them, or just a bad deal. My cell phone was worth more than sex with a 14 year old, so I always told them. My cell phone is worth $500, having sex with you isn't.

It didn't take long for everyone to understand, I wasn't a gringo. The word got around after I went to the Colonel and ask for a price quote for killing people. Then it so happens that a major in the police in the DR years before got sent to Israel for an anti terrorism course and I was the head instructor. So he would come and visit and put his kind word into the Colonel who ever they might be at the time that he was friends of the Israeli Assasinino.

So in the end, we all got along just fine.

I guess that's how it works out some times. In bold, what's official legality vs informal? What ever you can afford and who you know? I know a doc who has a clinic in the DR who has invited me a few times. Like most places, I guess the DR has its pockets of wealthy people who don't interact with the poors and he caters to them. He wants to expand his clinic and do more medical tourism focus which is where I'd possibly come in, but I'm much more interested in Panama where i have some biz, contacts, etc and now working on expanding into Colombia.

There's well established Jewish community in Panama been there post WWII and strong ongoing ties to Israel.

Interestingly, the former head of Mossad "retired" to Panama and I met him briefly. Had no idea that's who he was until he'd left and person who introduced us told me the friendly older gent I'd just shook hands with at the coffee shop had been director of Mossad. That was maybe 8 years ago. Apparently, there's an interesting history and back story to the relationship of Panama and Israel which continues to this day. The US, Israel, and Noriega were all allied for a while and Israels involvement very interesting stuff good spy books are made, which I'd you'd have some interesting knowledge of:

Dominican is for cacao farming, Panama is for other things. It also happens to have the best kosher grocery store that I have ever been in and restaurant that I have eaten at.

If you were introduced to Mike he wasn't the head of the Mossad. He was the head of operations, a brilliant thinker and great guy.

As was my expectation guessing at your age and such. Let me know if/when you ever plan to make return visit. When was the last time you were there?

Panama has a lot to offer for various people. I liked it better 10 years ago when I started going in many ways, but as I have a place, biz, etc there, I enjoy my regular visits still.

Ah, well she or I could have been mistaken for sure and she likely had no idea the differences between head of the Mossad vs head of operations and it's not like one can easily just Google it. She's a tally pretty Brit lady he knew I was at coffee shop with, and after she said hello and introduced us, made the comment. I could have heard wrong. I suspect strongly she was not who she claimed to be as she was awful chummy with him, but she was a fitness buff who knew who I was and showed me around Panama when I was new there. She's back in UK now. She'd make a great character for future stories but almost too "perfect" for it as she really did look like something out of a Bond movie. Good times...

Just posted a review, on the latest work.

Due to impeachment, the thread on Taran and the lack of Firefly, I just turned things off and read it.

"The only problem I have with the book is I can see myself in a decade and a half turning into the main character."

I LOLd at that. People reading that review don't know just how possible that is in your case. Other review that's there now, is the Paul in the book who was an LRRP in 'Nam and that age. Not nearly as salty or dangerous as the character in the story nor ever in the SOG, but the base character is a real person and buddy of mine. The dead Ranger name is an Army Col I know who is a fan of the VGS series.

All, Top rated thriller author Mark Allen just reviewed my recent Novella Old And Angry via Amazon:

"If you took Clint Eastwood's cranky character from Gran Torino, made him a Vietnam Vet with lethal skills, and then gave him a murder-mystery to solve and some bad guy butts to kick, you'd end up with "Old and Angry." Author Will Brink's first-person narrative expertly captures the gruff, no-nonsense, "get off my lawn or I'll kick your tailbone out the top of your skull" voice of door-kicking, meat-eating, whisky-drinking Paul, the "old" protagonist of the story.

The 'angry' part of the tale comes around when Paul and his ex-SEAL pal Jake find out what kind of dirty business some Russian gangsters are really up to and decide that the only way to handle the situation is the old-school warrior way, with generous helpings of C4, frag grenades, and hot lead. The author shows here that he really knows how to write an action sequence, delivering a gritty, you-are-there vibe that means you can practically hear the explosions, see the blood spray, and smell the gunpowder.

The story may be short, but it packs a mean punch, like a rock-knuckled uppercut right to the chin. This one's got a wicked, cutthroat edge, and should be right up the literary alley of anyone who enjoys violent, action-packed, hard-boiled thrillers."

This review just up from Best Selling Action-Thriller Author of the Team Reaper series, Mark Allen.

A rock 'em, sock 'em, run 'n' gun ride

Reviewed in the United States on July 11, 2020

"Buckle up for a wild, bumpy, rock-'em-sock-'em ride when a black ops trigger-puller's vacation goes sour--er, south--and he has to run 'n' gun his way through Panama City. Author Will Brinks immerses you into the tactical mindset of a covert operator with the literary skill and writing expertise of someone who's "been there, done that." The narrative reads authentic, which is no easy thing to pull off in this modern age when everyone raised on Rambo and Chuck Norris movies thinks they know how special forces warriors behave.

This novella packs more action into its brisk pages than most books three times its length. The zinger-twist at the very end sets up a sweet hook for the next entry in the series and you'll be One-Clicking that bad boy onto your Kindle faster than a MAC-10 empties its magazine on full-auto.

Bottom line, this is edgy, high-octane, rocket-fueled entertainment."

 New REVIEWS

Mark Allen, Best Selling Action-Thriller Author of the Team Reaper series, had this to say about Part III of my VGS series:

"I read through this rapid fire-paced novella faster than a bullet blows through brain matter. The first-person narration of "Wink," our trigger-puller protagonist, is jam packed with sharp insights into the minds of spec-ops warriors as well as hilarious rants that truly make it seem like he is speaking directly to the reader.

The story picks up right after the events of the second entry ("Welcome to the Jungle") and quickly slaps on additional plot layers, including a late-twist cliffhanger ending that'll have you scrambling to get the next book in front of your eyes.

If you have an affinity for hardcore action heroes who take no crap and are perfectly willing to shoot bad guys in the face to accomplish their objectives, then the Vacation Gone South series should be your literary cup of whiskey-and-gunpowder-laced tea.

Seriously, give this series a shot."
