View Full Version : SPR optic mount opinion?

Working on putting together an SPR over the next month or so. I will be using the 2.5-10x Vortex PST FFP.

I am currently running Bobro mounts for both my other variable optics, but I'm willing to consider other options. Only stipulation is that I want it to be a QD mount.

I've used LaRue in the past with great results, but of course I've read horror stories about them as well. The other one I'm interested in is the ADM recon mount. I know they make very good mounts, but I have not used rings that take horizontal bolts before. Any issue with that setup?

I've been using Larue mounts for over ten years with absolutely no complaints. What kind of horror stories did you hear?

Bobro has a grear rep too, but I've not tried one myself.

I have the ADM Recon and it's been rock solid for me.

Currently on the above Recce less than 200 rounds through the rifle and trying to figure out what it likes to eat. Edited to add: Both groups were at 100 yards.

Same mount on another similar rifle shot these with M193

In my case, it stayed consistent with very minimal POI shift when remounted as long as I remounted it exactly the same way each time. When I did experience POI shift I traced it to me and that I didn't remount it exactly the same way.

This is one datapoint. Others may have had other experiences......

ADM recon is solid, and I prefer it over the larue. Between Bobro and ADM though I prefer the tensioning system on the Bobro, which is just flat out awesome.

For some reason though, I did have a harder time keeping the reticle aligned while tightening the scope rings on the my Bobro mount but it could have just been a 1 time thing as I only have 1 SPR-E mount.

When I was researching mounts, I gathered that bobro was "best". I went with larue as it was the cheapest of all 3 with the combo deal and a will most likely not be able to tell a difference between any of them for my purposes.

I've always used ADM mounts. I've had a Recon-H, a Scout, and a regular Recon that my PST 2.5-10x32 FFP sits in. They've always worked great for me. But, honestly, If you are already using Bobro, I don't see any reason to change. Bobro is good stuff.

I am using LaRue and AD mounts for mine. They work great. I have heard over the years that Bobro mounts are very good as well, just never used one. I have been using the LaRue mounts for about 10 years myself. Last year, I bought a couple AD RECON mounts.

100% internet chatter. My first hand experience has been nothing but positive with LaRue's mounts.

Thanks for the replies guys. Seems like I can't really go wrong with any of three options.

I've had one LaRue and one Bobro. I'll buy Bobro exclusively now.

10-4 American Defense Makes nice mounts. You can find them with Vortex markings. I really like LaRue Mounts because of the sliding lock on the rear quick release tab.

I don't mean to make it sound like a LaRue isn't a good mount, because they are good. However, IMO the mounting mechanism of the Bobro blows the LaRue out of the water with regard to simplicity and ease of use. IIRC the recent article in Recoil Magazine said Bobro mounts showed the least POI shift when removed and reinstalled (Compared to ADM and LaRue). I'm not going to speak for anyone but I've also noticed that several well respected individuals on this board have expressed a preference for Bobro mounts over the past couple of years.

I'm not an expert by any stretch of the imagination, and this is just one guy's opinion after owning and using exactly one mount from each company. Take it for what it's worth.

Bobro mounts are awesome. The locking mechanism on those mounts may be the best out there but like anything else you are going to pay extra for it. If money is not an issue Bobro mounts are sweet. I also noticed that the American Defense web page and the Bobro web page look very similar. I have wondered if they are connected like two different grades/quality of mounts made by the same manufacturer, just a thought. As far as return to zero all of the American Defense and LaRue mounts I have owned have been rock solid and hold zero. I've been thinking about getting a Bobro mount for Acog I have on a SCAR - the single throw lever (rather than 2 levers) would be nice.

Decided I will go back with another Bobro. I've been very impressed with the other two I own.

Anyone running a mount with MOA built in on their SPR?

Anyone that's running the 2.5-10 PST running out of elevation adjustment?

I haven't run out of elevation adjustment since the reticle (EBR-1 MOA) is actually usable, but I can tell you I only have half of the adjustment range available. I'm also thinking of moving to a 20moa mount to regain the unusable elevation adjustment.

I noticed how much adjustability I was losing and then looked at the data to see I still hd the mills to reach out to ~950yd with the BCM Recce in question on the average MN summer day, before even needing to use additional reticle holds so I see it as a non issue for my 556 guns.

On a .308 though I would want a 20moa base for sure.

Are you saying you still had some adjustment to bring the reticle in at 950yds? Or could use holdovers? Both?

Sorry. I could dial to center out to 950.
