View Full Version : Fixed replacement for Bomar adjustable cut?
Is there a fixed rear sight that will replace the Bomar? I know that Heinie makes a replacement for Kimber cut (I had one years ago) but don't see a Bomar version yet.

I spent a long time a couple of years ago looking for something similar. I could never find anything that would replace the Bo-Mar style sight on my Springer. It was a lot easier to sell the gun and just get a new one with the sights I wanted on it.
The only alternative I could see was contracting someone to get something custom made.
ETA: I guess i shouldn't post old info, huh?
John Harrison makes a fixed sight to replace Bomar's... you can read about them here (http://www.louderthanwords.us/forum/viewtopic.php?f=6&t=6347&hilit=bomar).
hope this helps...
Back when Mark LaRue was offering M1911 parts, he made a fixed sight for the BoMar cut. He called it something like the 'Bovax,' as it had a Novak-style exterior profile.

I wonder if the Harrison sight can replace my Bomar on my STI. The cut on my slide looks a little different.

An STI is exactly what I'm looking to replace. Brazos has 9mm Trojans in stock with adjustables, and 10 weeks out on fixed. Thought maybe if there was a fixed replacement for the Bomar cut...
Brazos has told me that the STI sights are Bomar cuts.

Both slides are examples of a "protected" or "buried" BoMar installation. Your slide cut is different because it is notched out for the windage screw. That shouldn't make a difference.
I think these guys might make what you're looking for. Champion Gun Sights (http://www.championgunsights.com/categories.asp) :)
ETA - Sorry, been up to long. I re-read your post and the Champion stuff is just more adjustable sights.
The Harrison Design rear sight is what you'll need. It will fit the STI Trojan rear sight cut as it is a Bomar cut. I've verified this for a friend of mine who has a Trojan.
You can order it directly from Brownells and have it installed by your own competent pistolsmith or send John Harrison your slide to have the sight installed by him.

1911 AUTO HD-001 REAR SIGHT
Mfr: HARRISON DESIGN & CONSULTING
Smooth, No-Snag Combat Sight Fits Standard Bo-Mar Slide Cut
Rugged, solid steel fixed rear sight fits the standard Bo-Mar BMCS slide cut, perfect for converting an existing adjustable-sight 1911 to a tactical or self-defense configuration. Fully radiused edges and corners help eliminate snagging during draw from concealment, and front of blade is squared off to aid one-handed slide racking to clear jams. Deep, .135" wide notch produces a clear sight picture with more light around the front blade for faster target acquisition. Fine, 50 lpi horizontal serrations on blade rear face eliminate glare and the distorting effects of uneven ambient light. Precision machined from steel bar stock, unique two-piece design has separate base that allows mounting in both standard open BMCS cut and the “Deluxe” pocket cut. Two hardened steel screws and a hidden lug join the body to the base to ensure a rock-solid installation that will not shoot loose, even under hard use. Drift adjustable .030" left or right for windage, allowing correction of approximately 3" of error at 20 yards. Installed height is same as many popular aftermarket rear sights, so you may not need to replace your pistol’s front sight. Gunsmith installation recommended.
SPECS: Steel, blued, matte finish. Body - 1.420” (3.6cm) OAL, .690” (1.8cm) wide, .500” (1.3cm) high. Notch - .135” wide x .115” high. Fits Bo-Mar BMCS (BM #1) 60 x .359” x .100” slide cut. Hex wrench and instructions included.

It will fit your gun, but the sight will hang off the back just like your existing Bomar.
The more I think about it the more I think I'm just going to wait the 10 weeks for the fixed sight version. I know it will always bug me if I don't.

Sweet. In the 3 years I've owned my Limited gun I'm broken 2 Bomars. I honestly think that they're really only good on Bullseye guns.
