View Full Version : Is it "safe" to buy 9mm Glocks again? Is brass-to-face over with?

I have to ask because from the limited searching I did here and other places...it seems that BTF and other issues with 4th gen 9mm Glocks have sort of gone away.

Anyone bought a 4th gen G17 in the last say 4-6 months? If so...did it run 100% like the Glocks of yore or did you get BTF?

Yeah...i know Apex has the fix (I have their extractor in what was once a problematic G19) but it seems like the issues with 4th gen Glock 9mms has evaporated.

Have to ask because I am thinking of picking up another G17 and might look at a new 4th gen G17 instead of searching out a lightly used older 3rd gen.

Thanks in advance for your comments!

bb - I would say you're PROBABLY safe with a Gen4 pistol made in the last year or so (2014 or later), according to everything I'm hearing regarding recent production guns. Can't say it's 100%, but I think you're safe. I wouldn't touch any generation 9mm Glock made between 2010-2012, 2013 is questionable. 3rd Gen guns made 2009 and earlier should be safe as well.

Yes...I had a troublesome 2012 G19 and Apex parts and ejector swap cured it. I know what range of 3rd gen guns is safe.

However, recent (4-6 months or newer) reports on 4th gen G17s have seemed pretty positive.

I currently have a Gen 3 19 I got a few months ago which was test fired on 1/5/15 and no btf issues in the 300 rds I have through it so far.

I bought a Gen 4 19 last week which was test fired on 7/28/14 but I have not been able to get out to the range yet with it.

However I do have a Gen 3 26, test fired near the end of 2013, which has btf issues. In addition Gen 4 17, test fired 8/23/11, I purchased back in March of 2012 which had btf but has stopped after the first 500 rds.

That's has been my experience thus far with a small grouping

No.

Its completely random unfortunately.

One of my range partners just put three Apex extractors into a 2014 G19 a 2014 G17 and a 2015 G34.

Prior the installation of the Apex parts, the guns were BTF monkeys and would eject everywhere with a variety of different ammunition.

I have a gen 3 19 that was made in October of 2014 with about 600 rounds through it (I think) and it throws brass at my face from time to time.

But it runs just fine.
