Since our last workbench thread is over 5 years old, I am going to start a new one and let that one die. Post pictures of your workbench/garage area, and pictures of the tools you use on that bench. Give a little description of the kind of work you do and what tools you are running.

This is my garage workbench and tool bench. It's highly overbuilt and framed well. Pegboard backing, numerous shelves, three lights, and a built in power cord. I do small tinkering and woodworking on this bench.

The small bench on the right is my gun bench. I use it almost exclusively for cleaning guns. I would really like to install a vice on it, in fact I do not know why I dont....

I know my humble group of power tools isnt much, but it was expensive haha. I love Milwaukee tools, but I wouldnt say I am loyal only to that brand. My Sawzall is champ, and actually is covered in mud from a stump removal yesterday. The Impact Driver is a champ. Not posted is my handy Dremel.

I still haven't gotten around to building mine since we moved in the new house. Lumber is still piled up in the garage. Operating off a jury rigged miter saw stand at the moment.

Back from the dead.

Been working on the garage a lot lately, and added a few grand in new tools. Textured and painted the walls, added a bunch on new outlets, T8 lights, and I'm currently building a Miter Saw bench.

LSHD: mines a mess right now but its very similar to yours. Except my lights at the top and my worktop is solid wood. (I made it like a cutting board)

Not that you asked but here's my bench I built a few years ago:

Here's some pics of the build process. I built it so that I can stand on it (all 280lbs) and walk around w/o worries of it giving way. I've done this numerous times wall mounting TVs and speakers and what not as I finish the area around it and install the stuff I need to get some real work done. You know, 60" LED HDTVs are imperative to getting things done. lol

I designed it so that the work surfaces are sitting in the framing on top of the cross braces so if/when I need to replace them I simply need to buy another sheet of MDF and make one cut and drop it right in. I wanted to make sure that I could use the thing and not be worried about replacing the work surface from actual use so I designed it for quick and easy replacement. A few years of use and I'm not even close to needing to replace it yet though. It's held up well.

Good timing. I really want something better to work on than my office desk though I would hardly ever use it and my garage is a gym so I don't have much space. Hopefully I'll get some ideas here. I just want something to mount a decent vice on to help with building lowers and such.

It would take me three days to rearrange stuff to take decent pictures.

Why do you think I posted pics from years ago when I built it & not current ones? lol

Jer, that's an awesome setup! I wish my garage went that far back.

I finished the miter bench...meh, not happy with it. It's a solid work bench, 4x4's and lags abound. But, the miter worktop leaves a lot to be desired. I may scrap the top and buy an actual miter saw stand.

Thanks buddy. That garage was one of the reasons we built this house so I'm pretty proud of it. I can back my truck in with a trailer, park two cars/trucks and still have plenty of room to work on the bench & get to all my tools & shelves.

Funny you mentioned the miter bench because I've been considering building my own as well. A fella on YouTube built one with folding wings & storage underneath. He then made the center work surface modular so he can quickly swap out his saw or a router to make it a router table. He doesn't give really any details on how to go about it so that's why I'm hesitant. I do alright with projects like benches & such but I'm by now means an expert. Just handy enough to get lucky from time to time. I've got a brand new router table in a box that I can't bring myself to open because I'm still toying with the idea of building my own all-in-one stand. Maybe someday...

If you wanna come by to check my setup out to get some ideas or whatever let me know man. Plenty of good breweries up this way to make it worth your drive too.

Where abouts Colorado are you from? I'm Loveland.

I built one similar, but much more sturdy, to the bench found here: http://ext.homedepot.com/community/blog/diy-miter-saw-bench/

I even went out, bought a Kreg Jig, and played with some pocket hole jointery. It worked really well.

My measurements were a mm off and the work station is a slight bit shorter than the miter saw, no biggy but it bothers me.

What I really dont like is that it takes up half the table, and makes a great rolling work bench into only what it is now. I really do think I will scrap the top and buy a miter stand from Dewalt.
