I have an M&P45C that I carry most of the time. I'm not a big fan of FDE, but I do like dark brown.
I've been dyeing a lot of parts lately for my AR10 project, and I think today I will dye my M&P frame the same brown color.
Is there anything that I should know before doing this? Tips or warnings? Like I said, I've done this with multiple parts, but never a pistol frame.

Good luck. I have dyed quite a few mags and a few sets of Magpul furniture that all came out great. I have a Canik TP9SA that is light tan. I wanted to make the frame a little darker brown. I boiled it for about an hour. It actuallly turned out better than I though but one side of the grip was darker than the other. I thought it was because maybe one side of the frame was down, so stupid me tried again with the same brown color. The second time it came out some kind of strange gray. Oh well now it is getting cerakoted. So don't screw up like I did. David

For all the parts I've done, I have "stirred" the parts with tongs, so I'll make sure I do with this too. Thanks for the heads up

Just heads up, I'm not sure how the rubbery back strap on the M&Ps will take the dye, expect a variation in the finished result from the frame due to material differences. Frame should be pretty straight forth like with other polymers though.

Try to use some cooking string to suspend the frame via the metal inserts into the pot. You will want to try to avoid having contact with the metal pot, as it will be hotter than the surrounding boiling water, causing the color variations described above

The only trouble spots were the areas that were already worn, as the mashed or scraped plastic didn't take the dye well, as the photo shows. Also, the grip swells didn't take the dye at all, so I left them FDE.

Very interested in this and how well it holds up. I just got an M&P45c w/out the safety, and I'm thinking - after seeing this - that it would look real nice with an OD frame, leaving the back straps black. What exactly did you use? Also, assuming it comes with instructions on how to complete the process? Any info would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Unfortunately, you can't make things lighter...only darker. You must start with a light color, like tan. The stuff is called RIT dye. Google should reveal info, including their website, and various guides of how to. It basically involves boiling water, very easy.
walmart sells it by the way, along with many other local stores.

I was referencing mine. Doing the frame of mine in OD Green or something similar.. Maybe like the color green of the XDm frames. That color always appealed to me. Just a thought.

ETA: Just caught on to what you were saying. So I more than likely wouldn't be able to go OD starting from a black frame? My apologies for the misunderstanding. No excuse, just poor reading comprehension on my part at the present moment.

No "more than likely wouldn't" about it. You simply can't. Not using RIT dye anyway. Look into Cerakote, Duracote something like that.

OP, looks good. I've dyed some Ar furniture sets before and was amazed at how well the RIT dye works.
