If suppressors, why in the hell do you need them hunting waterfowl?

Yes they appear to be salvos.

As to why. Because you can? Because it makes the report quieter though i do not know about hearing safe. Am personally all for it. The more people see suppressors the more support there is for their use.

To protect the hearing of you and your dog. Hearing damage adds up. It's also not really fair to your dog to subject him to shots throughout his life, leaving him hard of hearing when he gets old.

What exactly is your objection and why?

Don't have an objection, just curious. Foxtrotx explanation certainly makes sense, just never thought of it that way.

They probably shot the birds on the ground! Hanging a pig on the muzzle would probably make for a better handling shotgun! Maybe they just screwed them on for the photo.

Okay, because when you say
why in the hell do you need them hunting waterfowl? it comes across in a negative manner and doesn't seem to be an idle question.

LOL, not a wordsmith, therefore sometimes my questions & comments aren't what I really meant. As my wife has stated for 50+ years, you confuse me.

As others have said, yes they are suppressors and they save your hearing. Why not is more of question IMHO.

I also wondered why in the hell. I was surprised and thought that they didn't exist for shotguns. I'm already deaf and wish that I had owned suppressors 55 years ago. Shotgun shooters today shun the muzzle attachments of yesteryear--like polychokes or cutts compensators--and refer to them using names like dog dick. I don't see the true believers among wing shooters using the bloop tube. My dog is deaf too.

Rcvd the following from a wing shooter in MN:

Waterfowl are very sensitive to shooting blasts and have learned to shy from areas where there is a lot of shooting noise. Also, suppressors are used in areas where disturbance to people makes them less tolerant to hunting. There is some form of legislation now moving through the MN state congress. The primary purpose is to allow suppressors to reduce disturbance from hunting near populated areas.
