View Full Version : Inside an AK74

LAV put out a badass video of an Arsenal AK74 shooting while missing some parts to show the internal operations.
One thing I though was pretty cool was at the 0.27 and 1.27 minute marks showing the bullet leaving the barrel. I was suprised with how unstable they appeared.

Major discussion on YT about the tumbling. I'm sure the LAV is sick of hearing it. Awesome video though loved it. Seen it at least 20 times.
YouTube comments make me want to stick my head under my lawnmower. So is that fleet yaw before stabilization or is the barrel shot out?
Love how it functions without the gas tube, albeit not at the same rate.

Looks like there was one time it hung. Impressed that it worked at all. Of course AKs are known to be over gassed.
Wish I was an 07 so I could have Arsenal send me some post samples.
The "gas tube" isn't really a gas tube, but more of a "piston guide" to keep it from flopping around too much during the cycle.
The power stroke of the piston is over before it clears the vent holes in the gas block, which is the piston cylinder.

I was going to post that, but when I did a search for the name of the part to back it up, every damn time it was called a "gas tube" so I didn't bother.

They do that. It'll straighten up by 25 yards or so. Weird, huh? I don't think it's a 5.45-only thing but I sure have seen it a bunch in that caliber.

WOW...the slow-mo barrel & receiver flex part was awesome!
