This is not a review fellas (I'll have that up this weekend) but wanted to give you some pictorial descriptions of Unity's Monkey Bar mounted (as it is designed to be) on Magpul's MBUS Pro front sight with a Surefire Scout mounted. The Scout is not the only accessory that can be used as it takes a multitude of their Fusion mount accessories. Will post more on that later. All I can say for now is that this is extremely compact, light, and its another product from U.T. that had me thinking 'Why didn't I think of that?'. :)

What's the benifits of combining your light mount and BUIS?

Benefits? Just a nice slim, lightweight, compact, forward thinking design that is, with all other Unity products modular. Is it earth shattering? Of course not but it is a very clean new idea on mounting accessories.

Seems like a solid alternative for those not running a KMR rail to have an Arisaka-like light mount. Looks promising.

Yea I think it looks pretty cool. It's probably a tiny bit lighter thaN a conventional set up.
I've been looking for a keymod scout mount but with this might work with the magpul sights I ordered

I'll take all the lightweight I can get on the forward portion of the rifle. With a Redi Mag and 6x Leupold on that particular AR anything I can save weight wise upfront helps keep that heft rearward is a good thing IMO.

Looks like it could be a great option for someone with a setup like the one used for the review or similar. I would personally prefer to use an Arisaka mount if possible if you have the benefit of running a key mod or mlok rail. My only worry would be zero shift when the light takes a good hit. Only time will tell though. Thanks for the review!

To give you an idea on weight, according to my scale it weighs appoximately .3 ounces including the two mounting screws which are included with the Monkey Bar.

ETA: The Monkey Bar will fit pretty much any light out there (Executive Series, X300 etc) with the right Fusion accessories but for this part I am just going to mention the Scout light.

For comparison (and strictly doing only a weight comparison of Scout light mounts) the Haley Dropwing Light Scout Mount weighs 1.16 oz according to Brownell's.

Noveske's Keymod Scout mount is .8 oz.

Arisaka's INLINE SCOUT MOUNT- KEYMOD is .6 oz

Weight of MBUS Pro and Monkey Bar with hardware:

I know these aren't exactly apples to apples but its hard to compare the Monkey Bar to anything else out there because of the unique mounting system. For those of you serious 'ounces equals pounds' dudes out there the Monkey Bar is by far the lightest light mount of the 3 I randomly chose to compare with. The advantage to using the MBUS Pro as the host mount is that the weight savings and compactness are definitely a plus. Also I like being able to switch the rifle to the support side and grab rail and not a light mount with my support hand.

Some of you have had concerns with the robustness of the Bar if the light takes a good hit. It is made from 6061 aluminum and it is much thicker at the mounting point for the MBUS to help compensate for the lack of a steel clamp. Would love to try this out but I don't have a spare Scout light I am willing to try and destroy. ;)

Like I said before the Monkey Bar (Like Unity Tactical's Fusion Hub) will take many of the Fusion accessories. This review featured the Scout but with the Fusion ring light mount (available in .825" and 1") most flashlights will work with the Monkey Bar.

Also looking forward to trying out the Offset Rail on the Monkey Bar and trying out an X300.

I apologize for not having pics out with these products mounted on the bar with the appropriate light but I am out of town and do not have access to my gear at home. Will try and post some up next weekend.

This is just a nice simple well made piece of kit. I really like how compact it makes everything up front. Especially if you are running a shorter rail this blending of a very compact front sight with the Monkey Bar makes a good combo. Thanks for your time!

I was about to ask if they make a right side mount version but I guess with the design of it wouldn't allow for that.

Yeah Jsop. Only left side mount for now because of the clamping bar location.

Any reason you couldn't just flip the site around and have the mount go toward the rear. Then the light head would sit up flush with the site while the light is mounted forward?? That's how I would give it a go on an SBR. All of my rails are as long as I can get em on 14.5 and less guns. So I wouldn't have a use for the way its designed now. Flip it around and count me in.. As long as the head and whatever clear the front sight mounted that way..?

It will work fine like that, it puts the light in a good position to keep the bezel aft of the muzzle.

Jwk,

Give me until tomorrow afternoon and I'll flip mine around and take a picture for you.

Good to know. Thanks. Looks like I might give one a go. Do you need a ball allen to get to the screw? Or does it have enough clearance to just take the head off, screw the sight on, and then put head back on?

Perfect. Thanks!

Jwk,

A little late posting but here are some pics of the Monkey Bar and the MBUS Pro flipped around for a right side orientation. It works just fine. You'll notice from one of the pictures that the M300B head clears but barely so no biggie. The pics are subpar (took them too late in the day) but hope you get the jest. If you're running a 10" or shorter handguard you will probably be a bit cramped but on a 12" or longer it'll work great I bet. When I get a chance I'll try this out on my 13.5" NSR. Hope this helps.

Thanks! Looks like it works well. I might have to give one a go.

Very interesting .

This makes me wonder if a slightly stouter version could
be made for the Troy front folding BUIS that are so common .

Except with a ring for any standard 1 inch light .

They were wise to go with the MBUS Pro as many would probably agree they have become the new industry standard especially when considering the price. The concern about being rigid enough is a non issue I believe. This is a pretty thick chunk of aluminum. I was trying to get it to flex last night and when properly tightened it is very stiff.
