Apparently you are correct. These pattern vests are of an old design and are not seen as much anymore. HSGI used to make one that was of a similar pattern. The airsoft crowd uses knock off versions of the original vest.

That is a copy of the south african pat 83 battle jacket, developed in 1983. Quite revolutionary at the time, was very popular with British SAS.
It can take a lot of kit, mags, grenades, bandages, waterbottles, poncho. I'll have a look for more detailed pictures.
