I have an aimpoint pro. I notice the dot size changes depending on the dialed in setting. What setting is the dot at the stated size (2moa) for the aimpoint?
Does the dot size vary with battery life? - setting 7 on an older battery is what setting 5 would be with a new battery

The dot size doesn't change. You're eyes are perceiving it as getting bigger as the brightness increases. It's called "blooming".

As Ryno said. When you get some time with it you'll decide what level of brightness you want. Generally lower settings make the perceived dot size smaller and helps precision, while higher settings makes it look bigger and may help speed on transitions. But the dot size isn't actually changing. I usually run the lowest setting that I can easily find against white or light-colored targets in the lighting conditions.

Which is why I prefer the 2moa Aimpoint dots to the 4moa dots and I own both.

That explains why the 2moa dot was covering a 10" plate at 300yds during the day. i dialed it down after sunset and it looked more like 2moa.

I never really thought of it like that before. Thank You for the insight.

Another good demonstration of this is to leave it on one setting indoors then go outside and look up at a bright sky. The dot will appear to get smaller but clearly nothing about the optic has changed.

I've got both as well, I really can't tell much of a difference in them. I can obviously tell side by side, but if Aimpoint labeled it wrong, I'd never know.

Definitely a noticeable difference, especially shooting at 100 yards.

For me it all depends what I'm using the sight for. If I'm running CQB out to 200m I actually prefer the 4MOA dot as it's very good for quick pickup in those less than optimal cheek weld/sight picture situations we called SOP.

Isn't the 4MOA dot actually something like 3.8 MOA?

I haven't found that dot size changes acquisition for me comparing my PRO to my T-1. Brightness does, though. I do feel like I get better accuracy with the smaller dot size.

This is exactly what I've found as well... That said I won't be giving my T-1 4MOA away anytime soon, still a great red dot, but 2MOA is the way to go on virtually all applications.

3.2, according to someone from Aimpoint (see this post (https://www.m4carbine.net/showthread.php?17061-4-MOA-VS-2-MOA&p=194174#post194174)).

The 4 MOA on left, 2 MOA on right. No tricks or anything, both placed in the same spot in front of the lens, both shot at the same focus point, both on setting 7 to try to get more of the dot than any bloom. Just click for the full-sized version of each.

And again, 4 MOA on left, 2 MOA on right.

Huh, I can really tell the difference, even if I run the 2MOA brighter.

I have both and I cannot tell the difference between the two as well.
