I was fortunate enough to obtain the latest revision of the HK416 stock and one version of their pistol grip. I've seen at least two stocks and three grips. I am not sure if the HK417 has still more of each.
Old HK416 and new HK416:

Upon first glance, the stock looked well made. It is definately solid. The buttplate is hard rubber. There are two types of sling attachments at the rear including, of course, the HK ring. As you will see, it has a storage compartment.
I remembered reading somewhere (I have to start writing this stuff down) the the receiver extension might be commercial spec. Or was it just on the MR223 version sold in Germany? Don't know but what I do know is that the stock has significant wobble on a milspec extension. Zee Germans strike again. Commercial tube inbound.
The grip simply ROCKS. It is the most comfortable grip I have ever tried. The grip angle seems slightly less severe than the usual suspects (Magpul, TD) and I like the thinness on top combined with the curvature of the palm swell. This version has a very secure storage compartment that opens with about a 25 degree twist.
First, the grip:

The buttstock storage compartment opens by pulling the top of the recoil pad slightly toward you and then rotating it 90 degrees from 12 o'clock to 9 o' clock. It comes completely off if you want:

When the extension gets here I'll take the stock to the range and see how it feels.
