I'm curious if anyone has any first hand experience with this light (TLR-1 HPL)? I just ordered one from Midway (helluva deal right now on this light) and I've been scouring the internet for reviews. There's really not a whole lot about it. Usually there's a YouTube vid or two but I haven't found one about this particular model.

Anyway, this unit looks pretty cool on paper. Seems to be a "best of both worlds" light combining the extremely long throw of the TLR-1 HP and the super bright power of the TLR-1 HL. This thing boasts 775 Lumens via two CR123 cells with a runtime of 1.75 hrs. Pretty much a BEAST!

This thread would be better suited to Tactical Lights, Lasers, & Knives (https://www.m4carbine.net/forumdisplay.php?15-Tactical-Lights-Lasers-amp-Knives) subforum.

Ah crap... You're certainly right, it would. I didn't see that subforum down there.

Maybe admin will move it there. Thanks!

I've owned one for a couple years now. Used it in one night match. The throw on the beam is just ridiculous. Solid target identification at 100 yards plus some. If it wasn't so huge and unwieldy it would be my number one for a carbine light. It actually illuminates for what is a useful range on a rifle. Seems to be best suited for varmint hunters, although Streamlight has a special model for that.

It is a 9/10 as far as an outdoor light goes. as far as home defense, I personally feel it is too bright.

I run the older weaker model on my carbine, its awesome. Lights up the area you want and then some. I use it here and there and havent changed the batteries in 2 years. Its definitely a wise purchase. Fyi i used to have it on my hd shotgun.. was a bit of an overkill.

Got the TLR-1 HPL today. It's awesome, holy smokes is it bright! And as if the deal Midway has a few days ago when I bought it wasn't good enough, it's even cheaper now! I may buy a second one. Here are some pics of it on my M&P Sport.

How wide/ usable is the spill ? I'm wondering if this would be a better all around light than the 630 lumen hl?

I've got two of these and love them. They work really well for rifles as the beam distance is second to none.

I haven't had a chance to REALLY test that beam out at night yet. Don't want to go scaring my neighbors by prancing around in the dark with an AR and a weapon light! So far, from just a couple quick bursts out in the back yard at night, I'd say the beam is quite literally what Streamlight designed it to be. It's got the intense, focused, bright-ass center spot for insane "throw", AS WELL AS a large flood or "spill" that is immensely bright. I have no doubt about their claims of 775 lumens. If I had to describe it in one word it would be "BRIGHT" lol. :)

I'll attempt to get some outside beam shots soon and post here.

My TLR-1 HPL arrived via UPS yesterday. Midnight and an hellacious thunderstorm in a rural area was a great test field. Visibility during the storm was poor at best. The TRL-1 HL which was currently mounted on my patrol rifle is without a doubt a great light. But the HPL with it's different design is definitely a beast with a great throw. The spill which isn't as wide as the HL is still very nice and more than adequate. After moving back inside I then ran the HL inside my residence. Despite the lumen increase over the HL I suffered no reflective blindness from the walls and other structures/ furnishings. The HPL is going to work out great for the urban/ rural enviroments that I patrol. Sorry for the lack of pictures.

Pardon the bump, but I cannot find a more recent thread. It is hard to ignore this model when looking for an affordable rifle light. Are there any specific problems or caveats that have become known about this light?

Wow, that's an old post. My light is still working great. Newer technology is providing more throw and very good peripheral illumination in a smaller diameter package while using 18650 rechargeable batteries.

Is there an option significantly less expensive than a Modlite that you would choose over the HPL?

I just bought a stream light Protac HLX because at $115 it costs about 1/3 or 1/4 what the Sure fire modlite or cloud options will cost.

I agree. The Streamlight PT hlx's are a good option if you're on a budget. They are also dual fuel using cr123's or 18650's.

I have also checked for Streamlight TLR-1 and I'm here, is it still good to spend on it?
I get some reviews about Streamlight TLR-1 (http://bestflashlightsreviews.com/best-tactical-flashlights/), which comes with many features.
