VERY NICE! :D
Are these barrels straight under the handguards or do they taper down after the chamber?
Grant, definitely put a 16" aside for me.
Grant,
A couple of questions about the 14.5's.
Will they be following shortly?
Do they have pinned FHs? If so, does Paul take any orders for other FHs or do you have to have the A2 FH removed first?
Lastly, this is good news. It's been a long time in coming, glad to see Paul's getting some product out.

I believe MAP is going to be $449. I doubt that stripped barrels will be sold any time soon.

Figures I just bought a Sabre Middy a couple of weeks ago because there was no indication of when the BCM's would be done. Was there as estimate given on the Middy's? I may have to buy one and sell the Sabre.

I have no idea how you can tell what I'm asking by looking at that picture.
I'm talking about if they taper between .670" and .640" like on most GI barrels.

So the answer to my question is no if they stay at .670" all the way across?
So the answer to my question is no if they stay at .670" all the way across?
No. At the barrel nut, the dimensions are roughly .981, then it tapers down gradually to .884 and then drops down to .670. Then it goes up to .849 and the down to .750.

No, there is about a 20thou taper across the tapered section.
Glad to see BCM getting stuff back out in the market! My BCM middy has been good to me and I hope it can get a shorty sibling in the near future :)

Amen to that! BCM uppers represent one of the best (if not the best) value/quality upper on the market today. Paul's attention to detail and concern about putting out a quality product is second to none.

If I were to order today how soon would it ship?
I would like 2 middys when can I order them and how much more for hand gardes ? It's been a long wait ,but I'm sure it will be worth it . if it's anything like the BCM M4 upper I bought 2 1/2 years ago and I'm sure it will be it will set the standard for middy uppers.
Grant, how does the BCM 16" middy package, compare to the Noveske 16" N4 package? Many many people recommended the BCM upper package, but the N4 barrel seems to be quite a bit better. Words of experience?

I will be waiting for the Middy.. I will be putting this on a LMT lower, for my next build.. I need someone to talk me into getting an Aimpoint for it.. I want to put a ACOG on it but then agian I would like a Aimpoint I was checking out that high end Tasco red dot but I dont know if I could buy it, it seems nice for the price but I still dont know..

The BCM uppers are excellent as are the N4's. So it is really a win win situation.

Thursday or Friday.

Are you doing custom work on these? I'm looking for the standard upper without handguards, and with a low profile gas block instead of the A2 post. Just curious if you can do it and what it would run me?
Hopefully you'll be getting an order soon! ;)

Me too, unfortunately I'm still waiting if he'd reply to a PM I sent a couple of weeks ago.
I couldn't get a PM answered to be able to order. What's up with that? I'll try again when the BCM Middys come. I hope I actually get some help with my order. I already have the N4 middy. It might make for a good comparison.

Thanks Grant. Will you be announcing the arrival of BCM Middys? Should I just check in 6 weeks? Are there still Noveske N4's Middys available?

I don't want to put you on the spot so if you want you can just pm me if it will cause less friction with your supplyers . :D

Woot, I got my UPS tracking # today! Thanks Grant
I'd sure like to be pm'd on that, too!
As far as what's on paper, I like the Noveske's improved barrel contour better than the M4. Instead of being able to mount a grenade launcher (and/or simply to have mil-spec dimensions), I prefer extra steel near the chamber, where it supports the chamber and acts as a heat sink, instead of near the muzzle, where it adds weight further from center mass/fulcrum.
At this point I a'm not expecting an answer,to be fair I should not have asked the question on the sight. I know they are both great and I think I'm just getting 2 of the BCM middy's . were I grant I would not want to offend ether of the supplyers . so is there anyone that has a Novetski and a BCM that has an opinion on the better of the two.:)
Question: Are these uppers still being built on CMT receivers?
Thanks.
How does the BCM compare to the LMT in reliability and accuracy? On Grant's site they within a few dollars of each other when you add it up. Also, how much does the mid-length help compared to the carbine length gas system if you properly clean and lubricate the rifle? I would think unless you have a full auto switch, the improvement would be incremental, not necessarily a quantum leap.

Does the BCM barrel have the smaller diameter gas hole (I believe 0.062) like the Colts, LMTs and other high end makers or does it have the larger hole like the Bushmasters and other low end makers?

Well, I was wanting to hold out for a middy. But the 16"M4's were going so fast that I decided to get one from Grant before they were all gone. BCM sold out really fast, so I jumped on G&R and bought one before he sold out too. I will catch the middy's next time around.:(
just checked BCM and their "notice" for the 16" middy has changed, to the same notice that was posted for their BCM M4 upper that has sold out (already). hopefully that means they will be listing the 16" middy as "in-stock" very shortly. make sure you have the money ready and can jump fast.
at the same time, i hope Grant gets resupplied on the LaRue 9" rails that i'm going to add to the BCM upper.

One item I have noticed correct me if I am wrong. From what I have read in the forum Grant checks each AR and Uppers he gets in before it's sold and fix's any carrier key screws that have poor staking.
He also looks over the total package for signs of poor fit and quality of parts.
IMHO this alone would be worth and extra $70+to this poster.
I sure wish a few of the other Dealers i have bought from would give the same high quality of service to their customers.:)
One item I have noticed correct me if I am wrong. From what I have read in the forum Grant checks each AR and Uppers he gets in before it's sold and fix's any carrier key screws that have poor staking.
He also looks over the total package for signs of poor fit and quality of parts.
sssshhhhhh, he's got the "BCM" syndrome; we're hoping it will spread. best way to help propigate it is through continued sales applications and verbal comparisons at alternate forums.
and yes, the peace of mind with having a professional vet the gear, is well worth a few extra bucks.
..........now if he will just stop hiding the BCM uppers and post on his site, I'll gladly help deplete his inventory.:p
I got my BCM today!!! Thanks Grant.

Email incoming!

Put in my pre-order yesterday. Hope I'm not too far down the list.
Any accuracy reports on these new BCMs? Would the BCM be appropriate for an ACOG 4x with a Geissele 2 stage setup?
apropriate and expensive, would be very accurate with good ammo and a good man on the trigger .:D I saw some where that Pat Rogers has 3 and endorsed them for hard use. don't know what he used for optics and trigger.:D
Got my middy order in, bitches! :D
I can't order one till Monday
These look killer!
Ordered my middie today too!
Grant:
Do you have BCM mid-length uppers in stock?
Thanks
I just ordered my Mid-length from Grant, So Yes he has them in stock!
John
I got my BCM in today. Thanks Grant!
yep, got mine ordered yesterday, along with some LaRue rails.

Have you shipped my barrel yet? Or should I order through your website?
Cyrus
Just placed an order for a Middy!:D
Thanks Much Grant! *Thumbs Up!*
Grant's going to be very, very busy with all of these orders! Though I suppose that's never a bad thing. :D
I appreciate the quick customer service! Thanks Grant!
Looks like they are all gone!

I don't see any of the BCM uppers available at BravoCo but I do see 16" Carbines at G&R. Everything else is shown as being Out of Stock on both sites.
Damn, that was fast!!!
I've been watching to see how fast they would go and yup, very fast.
I have a feeling that when the 14.5" comes out it they will be gone even faster.

I think Grant's going by "the list". I put my order in (through e-mail) yesterday as well, and was told that I'd get mine with the second batch. I'm assuming that he only got a handful, say 10 or 15, for the first run.
I'm sure he'll clear this up though so there won't be any confusion. I can't wait to see what they look like! ;)
EDIT: for those of us on "the list", would you like us to go ahead and order when they appear in stock on the site? Or will you be contacting us individually? My credit card, well my FFL's credit card, is ready to rock and roll.
I too was amazed at how fast these went. they went quicker than the last time BCM had these out. Ordered mine from Grant, said that he had put one aside for me, but I don't know if I was in the first or second batch, so it'll be a "wait and see".

You are correct. We FIRST notify that people that have sent us an e-mail.
The second back of middy's should appear in 1-2 weeks I think. So if you want to get one, I would HIGHLY suggest that you send us an e-mail!

Excellent Grant,
Thank you!
E-Mail sent to grant for a middie.
Did the mid length uppers ever appear on the BCM site? I was checking 3 or 4 times a day and never saw them? They also never sent me the e-mail that they were in stock. It sucks if they sold out without ever e-mailing those that followed their directions to get notified.:(:(:(:(
I couldn't wait ,had to get my 2 from Global Tactical /Denny. I just was not going to get left out in the cold this time no matter what.:confused:they have still not come in stock yet at Bravo and you would think they would have been first. I hope there is enough to go around this time so every one who want's them can get them .

I don't believe they've been posted on BCM yet. If I had to guess, and this is a true shot in the dark, I'd say that BCM sent out a small initial batch to a few popular distributors to get an idea for demand. Then for the second batch they'll re-evaluate who needs what quantity, etc.
As for when BCM will post them up, no idea.
can you imagine if they made compleat rifles and were in stores, they would surely sell like hot cakes .I bet they could do an M4 with a BUIS for $850.00 to 900.00 and kick the compitition's ass. maybe even throw in a free BCM hat.:D

I just ordered mine from BCM! This gov profile middy will be a GREAT companion to my hard-use, medium contour Operator rife. Now, I have what I wanted: a semi-precision, hard use upper (Operator) and a standard, gov profile middy (BCM). Call me happy. :D
Got my E-Mail notification from BCM today - 16" Middys are in ! Got mine
ordered !
I tried steering a few people towards these and got all sorts of retarded questions like "well if nobody has ever heard of them what's the resale value like". I threw up my hands and walked away. As long as I have mine, and it should be here the 20th, I don't much care if anyone else gets one. :p
I hope G&R gets them in soon. I've had my "Keep Virginia Zombie Free" lower sitting here waiting for one for so long I can't remember. I can't wait!

BCM Middy (http://www.bravocompanyusa.com/BCM-16-Mid-Length-Upper-Receiver-Group-p/bcm-urg-mid-16.htm)
Interesting, I just checked the link and it says they are In Stock?? I ordered one just now.

I placed an order last night, got confirmation email, and it was indeed out of stock this morning. They may be working weekends.
Well, my luck is definitely true to form. My internet access goes down and when it comes back, I find out the the uppers were listed on the BCM site and an e-mail was sent out. Now I check and they are out of stock. I guess that I am destined not to get a BCM mid length upper anytime soon. :(:(:(:(
just wait. Supposed to be a second batch coming.

Thanks!

I think that I am starting to feel sick & may have to take a sick day tomorrow. I think a day in the fresh air would really help such as at a range.

For those looking for plastic handguards for the midlengths...
These are the measurements of the Cavarms. I've included the standard "carbine" and "M4" profiles for comparison purposes.
C3 Carbine..........6-5⁄8" (16.8cm) long........2-1/4” (5.6cm) OD at widest point......1-5⁄16" (4.9cm) OD at narrowest point
C4 Carbine..........6-5⁄8" (16.8cm) long........2-5⁄8" (6.6cm) OD at widest point......2-3⁄16" (5.6cm) OD at narrowest point
C6 Mid-Length.....8-5⁄8" (21.9cm) long........2-9⁄16"(6.5cm) high.........................2-3⁄8" (6cm) wide
C8 Mid-Length.....8-5⁄8" (21.9cm) long........2-9⁄16" (6.5cm) OD at widest point....2” (5.1cm) OD at narrowest point
Basically, the C8 are the closest you're going to get to an M4 profile, and they're 1/16" shorter at the delta ring and 3/16" shorter at the handguard cap.
Which is 5/16" taller than the standard carbine at the delta ring, and 11/16" taller at the cap.

Thanks for this information! So the C8 is the tapered version for the mid-length? I'm assuming OD stands for "overall diameter"?
Yes, the C8 is the tapered midlength, the C6 is the "straight".
OD stands for "outside diameter", but I don't know if that's width or height, or if it's both.
C8 is what I used and they fit nice and tight,I do wish they had double heat shields.:D

Did you Duracoat your upper? What did it run you? Time?
I used Norrell Resin - O.D. Green. I have used Duracoat & Norrell. I like both. However, I am not a patience man. With Norrell, you bake at 300 degrees for 1 hour. When it cools, it is ready to use. I still use duracoat on things like the Aimpoint (one photo actually goes with different rifle, but my budget is gone on this rifle for now). Duracoat takes a while to cure. I added locite to rail screw a week after applying Duracoat. The locite ate the Duracoat away on the rail. I applied loctite to a year old durocoat finish - no affect on finish. Also, duracoat is 2-parts mixture & Norrel is 1. Just easier to work with for me.

Took one afternoon for upper. Lower was done last week.
Grant,
Will you be advising us when you see these coming back in stock at your store?
I would love to to get one with a DD rail and an LMT lower kit you are currently offering.
Thanks.

The way I work it is people that have sent me an e-mail get first crack at a middy. After all those e-mails have gone out I wait a couple days to make sure they had a chance to buy them. If I have any left, I then post it online.

Awesome, it turned out very nice. Thanks for the write-up!
I just got back from the range after putting 200 rounds through the BCM. I fired several different brands of ammo (75 gr TAP 5.56, 75 gr TAP .223, PMC 55gr, Mal '83 55 gr, M855, XM193) without a problems. It handled great.
Wasn't the best day for checking groups. The hurricane was even affecting North Georgia. Winds were around 30 mph all day. So, I only fired out to 50 yds to get the rifle zeroed in. It definitely liked the 75gr TAP 5.56mm the best. Followed by 75 gr TAP .223.
Also forgot to mention that I am trying Denny's ION bonded BCM BCG. Very nice BCG (but expensive). I will have to seen how the finish holds up over time.
Very pleased with rifle so far..

Ok, if your e-maile me, then you are most likely next in line. BCM uppers arrive in bundles of 6. So we generally sell 6 of them in about 4 hours after sending out the notifications.
Next batch is most likely 1-2 weeks out I think.

I just got my new upper in, it looks fantastic.
I have a question about storage. I'm slowly building my AR, and won't complete it for a few months. Should I just leave the upper the way it came (coated with oil)? Or should I wipe the excess off and put it back in the box? Preference?
Thanks!
What are the differences between the BCM and LMT uppers?

For one thing, find me an LMT middy upper that isn't an MRP. Also, if it really matters to you, BCM uppers adhere more closely to TDP or mil-spec than LMT. Most notably, the LMT lacks tapered FSB pins and parkerization under the FSB.
28_days, why would you want to wipe away layer of oil that was intended to protect the metal, then store it?

Ehn I probably wouldn't. In my defense I'm very OCPD. I wiped it down gently with a shirt, threw in a rust inhibitor chip, and called it a day. :)
Almost everything here is from Grant. I think the stock that's on the gun in this picture and the Cavarms handguards (G&R doesn't carry any middy plastic handguards) are the only things, other than the stripped lower, that came from Brownells.
Still need a BUIS but haven't decided what I'm going with just yet.

Really?
Mine had quite a few nicks in, 12 or so in the upper receiver and the flash hider looks as if it was in a box full of other flash hiders and shaken like a martini.
Don't get me wrong, I'm not complaining.. hehe I think I'm too used to building my own AKs out of military used kits to get work up over a few nicks in the anodizing and I'm all about the quality of the unit. I'm just a little surprised that maybe I got one that "slipped through"

If it is that bad just drop BCM a call. I ordered an upper for a friend of mine during the last rune, which ended up having some anodizing blemishes. To tell you the truth, I was surprised that they took it back, but that's how good BCM's customer service and that's how committed they are to keeping their customers happy. And, seriously, the finish issue wasn't a big deal, but I wanted my buddy to be happy with his FIRST AR.
ETA: I just ordered myself a BCM middy, too. And that'll do it for me: One BCM middy and one GTS Operator middy.
Naw I'm happy with mine
I'm getting too old to care if I have a "perfect" rifle. How long before I put dings in it myself?
ETA when I first got my upper the dust cover was VERY hard to close and would just pop open. I contacted BCM and they said it might work itself out but they would replace it if I wanted. I opened it and closed it a dozen or so times then had my wife try it. Now the wifey is 4'11 (don't ever tell her she's not 5 ft to her face) and she could close it with a little pressure so no big deal but you're right. BCM would have taken it back if I had wished it so.
I hit the "Email me when Back-In-Stock" link for the BCM 16" Mid Length Upper Receiver Group yesterday and saw the BCM e-mail notice that it's in stock in my inbox this evening after work.
Order made, thanks Paul!
Grant, sweet!!!
Got the BCM 16" middy and the LaRue 9", and i love them. Definitely worth the wait (though waiting for it really emphasized the "Time is Relative" theory). I'll post pics when i get it assembled. Really appreciate the effort on your part. Thanks again and have a good weekend.:D
