They both CCW. Interesting....lets see how CNN can spin this one.

Former CNN Anchor Survives Assault Thanks to Husband Carrying Gun

On June 30, former CNN anchor Lynne Russell was saved from an alleged armed robber when her husband Chuck de Caro drew his 9mm and killed the attacker.

The incident took place in Albuquerque, New Mexico, while the couple was traveling old Route 66 together.

According to the New York Post, it was about 11:30 pm when Russell opened their motel door to go grab something out of the car, and the man was just standing there. She said, “I opened the door and he materialized out of nowhere; he was inside. And he pushed me into the room and onto the bed and closed the door.”

Russell’s husband was in the shower and ran into the main room naked to investigate the noise.

The suspect allegedly pulled a gun and demanded “money and valuables.” Russell said she and her husband “tried to calm the man, ask him not to point the gun because we really couldn’t think what we could give him.” Russell added, “It felt to me he was used to doing this, that whatever happened wouldn’t bother him.”

Seconds later, the suspect grabbed a briefcase then began shooting. De Caro reached his handgun on the nightstand and returned fire, killing the suspect, but not before being hit three times himself.

De Caro “is a former special forces officer who now works as a national security strategist.” Russell said he was “bleeding profusely” when the shootout ended. He underwent surgery for his gunshot wounds at the University of New Mexico hospital and is now recovering.

Both Russell and De Caro have their concealed carry permits.

4th of July weekend... you won;t hear about it on MSM... plus Jim Webb announced candidacy for Dem President... plus there are flags to be burned.... plus Trump and Hillary....

Yeah, they won't need to spin this one because they won't even need to report it. Even if they do, it will be his SF Ninja skills and ordinary people have no use for a gun as it would have only gotten them killed. Many ways they can play it. None of which will acknowledge the fact they would both probably be dead.

Lynne Russell herself had a private investigator license in the state of Georgia and was a reserved Fulton County deputy while she was with CNN and Headline News. CNN was fully aware of her connection to law enforcement.

On the other hand, maybe my twisted logic might come to a different conclusion.

Way to stay in the fight.

Yep, his SF background will be justification in this case. Bullshit political bias aside, glad he took out the trash. One less scumbag for the rest of us to have to deal with.

"Carrying a concealed weapon didn't save the intruder's life. Concealed carry did not save their lives, training and skill did. A former Green Beret and former deputy sheriff aren't like the average Joe off the street."

Ok, so this guy obviously read my post above.

another accounting... now guns were in nightstand.. which makes a lot more sense to me... why she didn't take one with her....

Married for a year and already she agrees to stay at a Motel 6.......... that's true love.

It's funny because people see the "resume" and they think dude is a gun-ninja.

Also, I don't recall quals in 2A. Lastly, motel? Sounds terrible. Have fun with the roaches.

They chose Mo 6 because it was pet friendly, interviews and articles pointed that out.

If Im out of pocket its Motel 6 every time no matter what town Im in. If Uncle Sugar is footing the bill I go where Im told, usually a Hilton or Marriott.

4th of July weekend... you won;t hear about it on MSM...

OR the murders in Chicago, Baltimore, St. Louis, etc. . .

As for the OP, this is why the wife and I have our SOPs; one of which being "don't out to the car for something, by herself, unarmed, and leaves the motel door unlocked behind her while I'm naked in the shower". I know we are all MMQB here, it's what we do on forums centered on firearms and CCW. Good for husband who acted and saved his wife's life and his very own. One less 02 thief in the world this 4th of July . . .

Didn't she say she initially slipped the gun into her purse somehow, at gunpoint, and gave it to her husband? Obviously that could just be initial media reports being totally jacked, as they usually are, but the whole thing seemed a bit off to me.

She correctly identified their handguns as .380, not .35 caliber as the media called it. She is pro gun from that writing :)

I'd like to see independent confirmation on the authenticity. It reads a little off to me- in that I like it too much. I wouldn't publish something like that until all the criminal and civil issues were buttoned up tight.

A statement prevalent among an ignorant society:

"Remember, just because someone robs you, or breaks into your house does NOT mean they should be killed. This is only meant for when your life is actually in danger. Getting robbed is usually not that case."

Because it's so easy and quick to tell if somebody robbing you or breaking into your house is armed. Even then, you should only try to wound them first and try not to kill them

Editorial on a legit news site (doesn't matter if Fox is to the right or not, it's still a legit WEBSITE) written by the person involved and still doesn't smell right?

What about this one? Telephone interview:

Nothing to see here, bud. Now move along. ;)

I unlocked our door, picked up the food I'd placed at my feet and was assaulted by a jackass with a big, silver semi-automatic weapon.

My husband (Air Force Academy, U.S. Army Special Forces), said "What's going on here?" and advanced into the room. Stark naked and dripping wet, he maneuvered himself in front of the small table between the beds, concealing two small .380 legal handguns we'd brought in from the car.

I'll go out on a limb and say the "big, silver semi-automatic weapon" found will be "high capacity" while their two small (likely low capacity) .380 are legal in all 50.

ETA:
I'm glad both of them are still alive and the BG is dead.
Whether she wrote her Op-Ed piece with any political spin (or if it's just her not knowing) is another matter.

Legit news outlets have broadcasted bogus news in the past, no? Just agreeing with another member about my initial gut feeling about the article. Is there an issue with that?
This is a good one to be wrong about, especially with everything going on in the news right now.

On the flip side... Not surprised she a "former" CNN anchor. ;)

I doubted the authenticity because the web pages formatting came up weird on my iPad and it seemed too good to be true. There is enough bs on the inter web to force me to pause when something is TGTBT.

Love this quote in the comments:

It could be that having that gun led to complacency and bad judgement that resulted in him getting shot. He was in the shower, she was outside at night bumping into strangers after driving with animals in the vehicle and not planning enough to make a reserved stop at a safer place. Clearly they are not the most cautious individuals. And ounce of prevention..

This is one of a few reasons why I don't think guns contribute significantly to safety.

That's a whole lot of stupid, that they then double down on in other posts, for one person-who says that they are ex-mil.

Just because people own guns doesn't mean they're always tuned in to their surrounding. Not all gun owners sit around reading Combat Handguns, American Handgunners, SWAT, SOF magazines and lurks at M4carbine.net forum.
