Glock 19's have been used for quite awhile ( as in years ) in several units within SOCOM. I played a part in that back in the day.....

I would guess because the G18 has a happy button. I'm not sure how useful they think the feature is, but given that they ordered 6 G18s and over 1,600 G19s, it seems they don't think it's that useful, either. But I guess when you need it, you need it.

Or whomever wants a few G18's as range toys, as long as the taxpayer is paying.

I believe the term is, "Weapons familiarization," or perhaps, "reference collection."

Considering they bought 3 G18's and 1,654 G19's should be a pretty big flag they didn't pick G18 over G19's. As others have said this is probably for training / fam fires. G19's have been used by cool kids (CAG/SF/75th/AWG) for years. Glad they're getting more excellent tools to do their jobs.
