I wonder that he didn't think he was paying respect in some misdirected way?

I mean, you could easily just flip them over and no one would ever know.

I find the whole concept of "memorial pavers" to be strange...

From the same website, in fact just below the story in the other "top stories"section:

Seems they were discarded due to blemishes or mistakes and found in a land fill and the homeowner decided to reuse them. If he would have simply turned them over there wouldn't even be a story here. Not that there really is one but whatever, we Americans have to be offended by something on a daily basis.

I notice that I am among the few people at cemeteries that takes pain to avoid walking on graves, new or old. For the same reason, respect, the whole memorial paver thing freaks me out. And to me, nothing says class like the ubiquitous 'Tint Job in Memory of John Smith.' To me that isn't a class way to show respect.

I damn sure wouldn't use recycled headstones - flipped over or not.

I'm glad they weren't stolen or anything like that, but still disrespectful. I'm sure this was just a matter of "cheap building materials" but it's still a bad idea.

I think it was more just wanton stupidity than disrespectful. If he had turned them facing down or ground them down so there was no more engraving then there wouldn't be any issue.

I'm curious as to why the maker of the headstones didn't grind them down and reuse them or crush them up for gravel or something. Seems really wasteful to just to pitch them in a landfill.

Honestly I don't really see why this is even newsworthy other than people seem to need to find something to be upset about. If it wasn't this it would be some other petty bullshit story.

It's really not newsworthy except somebody decided to get "offended enough" to make it news. I think the vandalism that goes on at actual military cemeteries is far more offensive but nobody seems to want to report those things.
