Looks pretty cool.

Oshkosh Defense won a major contract to build the ground vehicle that could become a symbol of the U.S. Army for a generation and will eventually replace the Pentagon’s storied but aging fleet of Humvees, the Army announced Tuesday.

Under the contract, which could eventually be worth $30 billion or more, Oshkosh will build nearly 50,000 of the Joint Light Tactical Vehicle for the Army, and about 5,500 for the Marine Corps.

surprised lockheed did not win it. I liked their submission better, far more modular.

Hopefully it would serve well. The Humvee is a great machine, but was not designed for the roles it has been largely used for.

Will they be selling off Humvees or do I have to go to ISIS to get a repo'd Iraqi one?

I hope that wasn't the proving ground for the vehical, an F150 could have done all that stuff.

Taken from the link;

“We’re digging pieces of rusted scrap metal and compromised ballistic glass that’s already been shot up, dropped, busted,” he said, “picking out the best of this scrap to put on our vehicles to take into combat.”

Rumsfeld’s now-famous response: “You go to the war with the Army you have.”

Like it or not irregardless of what is given to someone, if they are incapable of maintaining it, it wont take long before we play this game all over again. I think perhaps rather than replacing stuff for a while the Army might be better served by learning how to maintain what they have and get it up to 10/20 standard and then replace the HumVee.

I think there is a difference between 'payload' 'cargo' and bed capacity.

Look a couple pages down, in the Maximum Cargo Weight With Slide-In Camper table. This shows what your slide in camper can weigh, with the addition of the F-150 Heavy-Duty Payload Package (Option Code 627) - 2,500 pounds.

Now I've driven trucks with their rear axles setting on the frame bumpers and their front ends so light you really couldn't make a sharp turn, if you wanted to. A bed full of wet sand is not a load that is sustainable on a regular basis or over any distance.

Yes, tell that to ford

F150 XL Payload 1,910
F150 King Ranch Payload 2,130

Payload weight is the weight that will retain all the drivability of the vehicle.

I guess now we wait for the inevitable protest by the losing team(s).

The camper weight being only 2,500 is an allowance so you could actually put some gear in the back in addition to just the weight of the camper shell and not exceed the GVWR.

Ya, that is normal in all contracts like these.

Even if the Army's justification in the award is iron clad. That is why the dates for these things are pushed out so far.

Looks like the Army threw one of the losers a bone (from today's contract announcements):

AM General LLC, South Bend, Indiana, was awarded a $428,295,155 firm-fixed-price, multi-year, indefinite-delivery/indefinite-quantity contract for M997A3-configured high mobility multi-wheeled ambulance chassis vehicles for domestic disaster relief efforts by the Army, Army Reserve and Army National Guard. Funding and work location will be determined with each order, with an estimated completion date of Sept. 4, 2021. Bids were solicited via the Internet with one received. Army Contracting Command, Warren, Michigan, is the contracting activity (W56HZV-15-D-0102).
