A man posing with a gun and taking selfies was killed when the gun went off and struck him in southwest Houston, police said.

Family members said the victim is 19-year-old Deleon Alonso Smith.

Investigators said Smith was taking selfies with a gun at an apartment in the 9800 block of Forum Park Drive and Bissonnet around 1:30 p.m. Tuesday when the gun accidentally went off, shooting the 19-year-old in the throat and killing him.

You know, I'm not going to try and celebrate this as natural selection doing it's thing, but come on people! Common sense saves lives!

If he had two kids at 19, chances are he would have had more in the future. So there is still an element of natural selection.

Back in the early 90's I was working as a LEO in the San Francisco bay area, and around 0200 or so call comes in of a loud music complaint from an apartment complex that was quite a shithole. Gangsters, dope, the works. Anyway it was a busy night and the call pended for hours as my team ran from call to call. Finally my partner and I get there and walk up to the apartment. Front door open, loud TV blaring inside. We come to about 15 ft. from the door and hear "boom!", loud gunshot followed by 2 guys running out in a panic.Not knowing what the hell was going on, we proned them out. Moved to the open door and peek in..Homeboy sitting on the couch with a TV remote in one hand, sawn off 20 GA. shotgun in the other. Dumb ass had the muzzle in his mouth and was making funny faces at his buddies when it went pop....along with his head. The amazing thing was about a week later, we get the same exact call at the same apartment. All of his homeboys were having a wake for him, sitting on the same couch with his dried blood on it drinking beer. And they had the balls to start talking shit that "we didnt do CPR on em.."Ah good times, glad I'm retired.
