Greetings. I'm new here and have been reading numerous threads to gain some wisdom. I have some questions regarding collapsible M4 stocks.

I have a Bushmaster XM15E2S and just obtained a Stag H2 upper (16" flat-top). I would like to add an M4 collapsible stock, but I'm somewhat bewildered by the numerous variations. I have seen that several different companies make them, but haven't been able to get a clear idea of which is most recommended. I understand that I will need a complete kit or otherwise get a mil-spec extension. So, my questions are ...

1 - Which of the standard M4 stocks is best?

2 - What tools are needed remove the standard stock and install the M4?

Thanks for your assistance!

J&T makes a commercial 6 pos stock that will work on your lower. It is 74.95 and has been totally revamped to satisfy complaints that current and retired LEO and military personnel have requested. The base of the stock has been rounded to keep from catching on your clothes, and the surface on the bottom has been slightly rounded. All latches and corners have also been chamfered to keep from accidental catching on clothes, equipment, etc. We also incorporated four flats inside the body where the tube rides to allow for dust, sand, etc to escape rather then binding up the stock. The area where the latch pin rides has been reinforced to keep from breaking if the weapon is dropped on its stock while it is extended. All you need to install is a spanner wrench or a castle nut wrench, also available from J&T. PM me if you are interested.

You will get a bazillion answers to this. LMT, Vltor, Magpul CTR, M93B or UBR, etc...

I hate to point back to ar15, but they do have a few years up on this site as far as putting together FAQs and reviews.

Here's a threat entitled "choosing the best collapsible stock for you" that you may want to review.

I put Magpuls on my M16's based upon what I thought I wanted. It is heavy, but rock solid and completely dependable. The consistent cheekweld is a nice selling point. I've also had VLTORs and probably like them even better than the Magpuls from an ergonomics and weight perspective. The rounded top with storage compartments is a good idea, and they were roughly 1/2 of a Magpul last time I checked. I've had numerous other 6-pt stocks throughout the years and would recommend a VLTOR over them as the price is almost the same. Just my two cents.....

I use the basic 6-position from Bushmaster. (I know the tube is not spec but I have no desire to change anything.)
My only advise would be to stay away from the cheap ones at gunshows and in some catalogs.

I've got a Vltor and like it. I may be getting an M93B.

I am building an AR with a CAA stock right now and I would say this is the best stock for the money. I got it for $70 shipped from a vendor on ar15.com and it is a solid stock with nice features. Link http://www.commandarms.com/product.asp?pID=119&cID=57

+1 On the Vltor and have just received a CTR but have not had it long enough to evaluate. But so far I like it allot. I have had a Vltor for about three years now and really like it.

I love the CTR on one of my SBRs.

Thank you all for your suggestions. That CTR does look pretty cool.

Since I couldn't decide on which of the higher priced stocks I liked best, I ordered a Stag kit from Bravo (should be here tomorrow). I figured that since it comes with the complete mil-spec extension, spring, buffer, and other parts, I can always get one of the others later and put it right on the mil-spec tube. For the time being, I'll have a more traditional looking M4ish carbine.

Thanks again,

Ron

Svtar15 - Does the J&T stock use a mil-spec receiver extension?
