View Full Version : Buffer tube length for thornton customs cheek rest

I am running a thornton customs cheek rest with a carbine length (6 Pos mil spec) on my ar pistol. I am a big guy and find the length to be a little short. The longer buffer tubes I have found that work with this system are from KAK. Can anyone suggest a similar product or offer input on the KAK tubes?

I'm using a VLTOR A5 buffer tube with mine, works great, feels like its somewhere around a carbine buffer tube with the stock one click out, still slightly too short for my preferences but definitely doable and a lot better than the Phase 5 pistol buffer tube I had on before.

I spent some time in the KAK website. Their super sig tube is 8.5" long and they have optional length extenders.... Sounds like the way to go.

I have the KAK tube with the thordsen pistol kit. The KAK receiver extension is about 2-1/4" longer than a standard carbine receiver extension, making the LOP equal to about a CTR in the second click out. IMO this is a perfect length of pull for an AR pistol.

Thanks for the info and pics. Very helpful. Is the the KAK sig or super sig tube?

Would you have space to run a QD end plate ? Looks like yes...

The pictured tube is KAK 1st generation that does not use a castle nut. What you want is the KAK Super Tube that uses a castle nut and you should be able to use a QD end plate with no issue.

Not exactly. It is the Sig SB15 tube, not the 1st generation.

Its different than the Super Sig tube as that one uses a castle nut while this one is just a screw in.

The difference between the 1st gen and the SB15 one that I have is that the 1st gen is the same diameter the entire length of the tube.

Mine has a fatter 'block' for the sig brace at the receiver end.

Here is a link to the one I have:

Yes, you can fit a QD end plate with the tube I have. I've since added one since I took that photo.

Hope this info helps.
