Need help finding one.
Only requirements are must be in 5.56, and come with quad rails.
Anyone have any advice on who to look at and above all who to stay away from?

Troll thread?
Why do you want quad rails? Would you not select a significantly better product if it were only $30 more expensive?
What's your purpose?
Stay away from the cheapest AR15 you can find.
They say the most expensive car you will ever buy is a cheap one, so its fair to say the cheapest will usually be the highest quality rifle. -Think about that!

You're in Vegas?
The cheapest I'd go with is a M&P Sport and add your own rail.
Or better yet, don't get a rail unless you have a reason for one.
Cheapest cost wise or build quality?
Any way, if you have to ask what the cheapest one is you're probably better off spending that money on something else

Home defense, target shooting mostly.
I like having the options that a quad rail system gives. Unless you think something is better.

No, not a troll thread, just being cheap. (not by choice, lack of funds).

If cheap is your only criteria, then look for items on sale by Palmetto State Armory.
Don't buy cheap when it could save your life.
Get a 16" upper, mid length gas and a magpul handguard.
"Lack of funds" is a ridiculous excuse and it tells me you aren't serious about finding yourself a rifle.
$500? $600? is that within the ballpark? Would you consider buying a used second hand gun?

What's your budget?
About 500$.
$500? $600? is that within the ballpark? Would you consider buying a used second hand gun?
I would. In fact I would prefer it.

Well cheap with in reason, I do not want something that will crap out when it is needed.
How much should I spend on an AR?
You want to use it for defensive purposes and yet want cheap. That doesn't compute. My advice is to purchase a solid lower first. Then a few month later get an upper.
At 500.00 you aren't even scratching the surface as you will still need mags, ammo, etc..
Your best bet is a used LE trade it Glock (if you need something now) and have it checked out by someone competent. Then get some spare mags and ammo.

PSA is the cheapest I would go with. They regularly have very good deals on lowers, uppers and BCGs. They are currently listing their A2 upper for $279, blem lower for $129, and premium BCG for $79. That's a hard deal to beat and they are Quite reliable. I would go that route and add a rail later.

Thanks. So the Blemished lowers are only visually defective?

sage advice

Correct, in most cases it's very diffacult to even find the blemish.

This. For the wife's range toy I recently purchased their Premium mid-length pencil-bbl upper for $279 shipped and a Magpul blem lower for $159 shipped. I already had a spare bcg & charging handle so I'm only out $438 shipped for a functioning AR (not including optics).

PTAC is strait up CRAP! If you choose to go the PSA route which I personally would prefer to have a better AR to bet my life on, do not buy PTAC. This is lowest quality that PSA offers.
Cheapest normally means low quality, there was another cheap AR a few years ago Blackthorn.
Perhaps he should have said "inexpensive". As far as PSA ARs go, I have two. I have about 1000 rounds thru them with no problem. They shoot well, are accurate within my limits, and I didn't have to sell the dog to get them.

Ive got about $850 in my BCM uppered rifle.
This is rock solid - http://www.gandrtactical.com/cgi-bin/commerce.cgi?preadd=action&key=6920
Pay a little more and get all magpul furniture - http://www.gandrtactical.com/cgi-bin/commerce.cgi?preadd=action&key=LE6920MPS-B
About 500$.
Buy an ak.
Cheap aks are good, just research what to look for. I would not recommend a $500 AR.
Better yet, eat eggs for a couple months and throw the rest of your grocery budget in a gun fund. I would save for a colt magpul, and buy a tlr1 and rail mount for the more handguard.
For budget rifle:
Get a rifle, couple mags, surefire g2, led bulb, and mounting system (shotgun mag tube holder bracket will work to hook light to bbl.)
Then get 1000rds practice ammo, and 100rds hd ammo, practice, ensure hd ammo works well.
Home defense, target shooting mostly.
I like having the options that a quad rail system gives. Unless you think something is better.
So you want to bet your life on the cheapest AR you can find???

If you absolutely have to have something for HD soon with that budget then I would suggest buying a used handgun, a couple mags, 1k ammo and shoot it a lot. Maybe add a Tlr light to it.
If you are really just looking to get a first AR save your pennies and wait. The cheapest I would buy or recommend would be the Colt 6920 personally. If you're betting your life or your families why would you want to buy the absolute cheapest possible? Lay off the starbucks for a couple weeks or stop eating out or sell some old stuff you dont use anymore or whatever and the extra money will build up quick.
Buy once, cry once.

Found my DDM4v3 used for $1200. The guy had paid $1700 brand new ran a couple mags through her and then went out and purchased a LWRC. If used is ok with you, there certainly are deals to be had. Just narrow it down to a couple choices then keep an eye out on the EE and when the right one comes up pull the trigger (pun intended)!

Eat Top Ramen for a while and use the money you save to buy a Colt. Not only will you get a great rifle for a reasonable price but you'll be getting it from a company that stands behind their product. In the long run, this will likely be the cheapest way to go.

KY Gun Co has the M&P Sport for $513 shipped. Thats pretty hard to beat. Just add a rail later if you really need it.
"Cheaping out" on something that you will most likely have for the rest of your life, is not a good plan IMO.
Getting started with a quality AR and kit is a $1000 proposition, at a minimum.
If that's too much, you can get started with a quality handgun for $500.
You know I was looking to get a Wasr...but then, well you know.
What I know is, if I were a bad guy in someone's house, I wouldn't want one barking at me.
If you have people in other rooms...that could be a consideration for sure.

Oh I was talking about the import ban. Yeah, I always have Frangible ammo in my mags.
I have a Cetme as my HD rifle.

Take a look at the Zastava O-PAP. It's only running for about $600-650, and no doubt cheaper than that in other places. Everyone I know who owns one like it.

Oh ok. I misunderstood. The WASRs are crude but effective.

If you do go the AR15 route, considering the limited funds, take a look at Magpul mlok compatible handguards rather than a quad rail. $30-$40 gets you a handguard capable of mounting a vfg/light mount/sling attachment/etc.
Again why the quad rails?

Self defense + $500 = Mossberg 500/590 or Remington 870
