New Hornady Bullets...

I'm curious to see how big a difference it'll make when shooting 500-1000 yards or even beyond. I know that people who have the skills and equipment have been doing this without issue for a long time with conventional BTHP bullets. I thought the Tipped Match Kings sounded good, could these improve notably over TMKs?

Their data shows they were not seeing issues until 2700fps+, getting progressively worse at higher velocities.

Not many people are shooting the heavy, high-BC bullets faster than that. 2600-2800 is about the limit for popular calibers like .260, 6.5CRD, .308, etc. The serious 1,000yd shooters are normally 7mm-300 short mags, 6.5x284, or wildcats that push those bullets at 3,000fps+. They will likely be very interested, as will hunters. 400-600 yard shots on game with 7mm-338 bullets moving 3000+ is becoming more common.

I shoot .308 and .223, so there's no option for me yet, anyway. A 75-77gr .223 or 168-175gr .308 would have me considering them over the TMK.

They're selling 178, 200, 212 and 220gr .308 rounds! Highest BC is the 212 at G1=.673

Would these fit in AR-10 mags?

I don't know why they haven't capitalized on the military and HD parties with this. I'm sure there are plenty of AR guys who would love these rounds in 5.56, 6.8, Grendel, etc.

Hornady has been doing a good job the last couple years bring out new products, most have been well received.

just purely looking at the G7 BC's. they are an improvement for sure over the Berger's and TMK's. interesting find about the heat. I wonder if Sierra tested those. I am also curious to see what pointing does to a Berger compared to the new ELD bullets.

as for hunting. .. I just ordered a new barrel for my Lazzeroni Warburg to try the heavies at 3300 fps. would be a sweet round if they group well

How have people been liking the ELD series of bullets? So far, I've been shooting Precision Hunter out of my 300 Win Mag Rem 700r, and I can't seem to pull a tight group. I honestly am shooting my 30-06 with Walmart ammo just as well, and it's not a precision rifle. I'm into my second box and I'm struggling to pull 2MOA while shooting prone from sandbags.

We dicked around with various wonderful BC bullets and VLDs, etc. Just not worth the ass ache of dialing in the right bullet jump. And even if we did find it, we shoot our guns so much that we'd have to chase the jump as the leade grew with wear.

Marks-What loads are you running now? I started out with factory ammo just to enjoy the rifle, but I'm deeply disappointed so far. I had planned on running 208gr Amax bullets, but they're discountinued. My next step was to buy some 190gr SMKs and try them. I'll be grabbing some Norma brass next either way.

I've ran the 140 eld match and 143 eld-X bullets out of my 6.5 creedoor gasser to 1000 yards I would say the 140 match may have a slight edge in accuracy both shot very well. I have shot the 143 into my bullistic gel at 100 yards and it had 75% weight retention and a nice mushroom. I may if I have time this weekend set up the gel at 600yds just to see what they do

Gone in favor of the ELD and ELD-X.

I still have a few thousand at least. Years ago before these bullets were popular I built an '06 around these loaded to nearly 3.600" and Norma MRP (RL22). Velocity aplenty from my 28" barrel.

I'm liking the 162 ELD out of my 7mag. I made no changes to the load when transitioning from the amax.

Ok gents, I'm a loser. Going into my third box, I started printing much better groups. My first 5 shot group this past Thursday night from 200 yards was 3", followed by another 5 shot of 2". Maybe it was just because the barrel is within its first 100 rounds. I think I'm going to pick up that box of ELD bullets and try it with H1000.
