Mec-Gar 1911 mags

Ordered a couple Mec-Gar 7-rounders for my Auto-Ordnance range toy on a friend's recommendation . For anyone that's used this particular brand, do they make decent 1911 mags?

Can't speak for the 1911 mags, but their Sig and Beretta mags are mint.

I've have used a pair for almost 10 years. Been really pleased with them. The springs require occasional replacement. Supposedly early units cracked the near the feed lips but I haven't heard anything about that in years.

I have several MecGar magazines for my 9mm 1911s. They are reliable and reasonably priced.

I have been shooting one handed so long that using two feels unnatural :)

Back to the OP's question, the magazines in question have worked well in my .45's and 9mm's.

They're good. The only mags I prefer to them are the Wilson 47Ds personally but either way they're good to go.

I haven't tried the Mec Gar 1911 mags, but I do use their Hi-Power mags and have had no trouble with them.

Running a half dozen Springfield style in a 9mm 1911 build. They function reliably.

MecGar has always been a good choice for magazines. But I read some 1911 experts don't recommend their 1911 offerings. I took a chance and bought two for my .38 Super Auto. So far so good..

I think for 45 ACP the standard players are good. When you get into the 9mm which the platform wasn't designed for then the nich market mags come into play. The Springfield style 1911 mags were development from the Springfield Shooting Team (Rob Leatham?). The mod is a small ramp on the front of the mag that supports the nose of the cartridge preventing it from nose diving as the slide starts stipping the round from the mag. Metalform manufactured these for SA as OEM I believe as they do for other manufacturers (Beretta & Sig ect) as well.

I originally tried the Wilsons when they first came out but could only load 6-7 rounds in them with any reliability, hence the move the the Megar.
