In the area of saving $$$,

I am looking for a small pack just big enough to house a G19, 1 spare factory mag, Multi tool, para cuffs, flashlight, badge, wallet, phone, small mace, etc and not scream cop or he's carrying.

While I am not against fanny packs, or shoulder bags, etc…. I am looking for you brainiacs who discovered something that does not cost a lot, is very portable/easy to carry and durable to last.

I know this is a long shot and I could very easily buy a Maxpedition pack or yada yada, but want to see what is out there first.

thanks in advance

Those things are best on your person, but with that now said... Check out the Tactical Tailor Crossfire pack in black/gray or green/black. Several associates and I have great luck with them. http://www.tacticaltailor.com/crossfireconcealedcarrybag.aspx

Less conspicuous, but not set up for carry. You might be able to mount a holster inside of it.

Probably not what you're looking for but if your are wanting to move around with this gear and not be noticed a brief case or lunch box will get your gear in most places.
I use a quality soft sided Briefcase/Compute bag.

I'm not sure if it screams "I have a weapon", but I get comments on the original Kit Bag every time I carry it while hiking. I have received comments such as, "that looks like a military thing" and "what are you carrying in that". It does work well, depending upon which pack I am carrying, but it draws attention for sure. In an EDC type scenario, it would certainly draw attention and may scream "I have a weapon". I don't think the attention would be too bad, if you were using it while running.

For the longest time, I kept my "stuff" in a soft-sided briefcase, that also had provisions for a shoulder strap that I'd put on and off as needed. Whatever you settle on, I do suggest you don't buy it in an earth tone, gray, or any other potentially "tactical" appearing color. It stands out worse than a Banana Republic vest. Perhaps some unobtrusive blue or something similar. A patch in plain sight that advertises a sports product, or a big theme park like Disney or Four Flags could help lower the profile a bit too. You could even hot glue a piece of velcro in a conspicuous spot so you could remove or even change patches as desired. Whatever you choose, the bag shouldn't appear valuable either. It needs to be tough as nails, but anything like a camera manufacturers logo for example could make you more high profile than you really want.

Something like this is the best answer. If you really want to conceal weapons off-body, do it in something inconspicuous. I carry my rifles in a tennis racquet bag as well.

I have a Tommy Gun Pack (fanny pack) for a 5" 1911 and a Hill People Gear Chest pack for bike riding but they scream gun (too me)

this is my SBR case, $30 used, $5 for padding, some $2 tennis rackets to add rigidity and subterfuge .

I could easily buy something made for what I want, but $$$ are tough these days, so looking for low buck alternatives that I could modify to work.

thanks for all the info so far.

I use this Kelty Jaunt pack and it's pretty low key. I can put a Crossbreed holster with gun, extra mags, IFAK, Surefire, knife, multitool, pen and notepad with plenty of space leftover.

Why not just a normal TimBuk2 sling bag? doesn't look tactical nor stick out as being "too valuable".

I love the Maxpedition packs and have beaten the death out of a Versapak.

Very tough and not all that pricey.

Good way to carry is in a cheap book bag style backpack or a bag from camelback (actual gun bags scream gun). But stay away from colors like desert, FDE or camo. Look for a bag that has some smaller compartments in the front or second pouch, you will be surprised how those pockets will be perfect for your firearm. With proper positioning of the firearm in the bag and practice carrying with just 1 strap on shoulder it becomes a very quick and efficient method. In the area of the country I live in (a touristy oceanfront area), it is very common to see people carrying the mentioned packs. I have a pile of about 12-15 that I rotate between, all of them bought at yard sales for just $1-$5. I've done this for many years now and started while working as a LEO and needed to look unarmed and unnoticeable. I would recommend a lot of dry draw practice. When it comes to concealed carry try to think outside the box. For the last 20 years of my career I carried my firearm with no holster because holsters scream COP. Unconventional thinking is a true gift.

With all the great options for concealed holsters why try to cram everything in bag/pack that's going to be much more difficult to get to quickly in an emergency?

I've spent a ton of money on high dollar bags and keep ending up back with this $30 bag. I've used it daily for over a year and its holding up great.

I agreed, they looked pretty unassuming. I bought the sling pack. Constructed well, fits a shield okay, designed more for a righty than a lefty (I'm a lefty) - the over the shoulder strap is pretty close to centered on the pack body, when you move the strap to the bottom buckle on the other side the pack doesn't lay as nice - probably because it is slightly teardrop shaped.

I'm 6' and 250. I think the thing looks ridiculously small on me. I bought it primarily to wear on a bicycle and motorcycle and while walking/jogging. I think it will fit the bicycle and walk/jog role okay, but I don't see getting this thing on over a riding jacket with or without armor in the shoulders.

If my daughters were old enough to CCW I would give it to one of them.

ETA: Fits a shield okay, zippers work well, I second whoever posted they liked the pull loops. Well finished, no loose threads. More than happy with quality, especially for under 40.00,

Some sort of camera bag that has the camera brand name on it... or a Lowepro with a Canon strap... IOW, when they see it everyone goes.. .what's with the bag? .. then realize .. oh, it's a camera.

A man and a bag generally means gun... unless it's clear it's a camera.

thanks for all the suggestions so far. I have to agree there is not one perfect carry and it appears I will need to get several and try them out.

In the mean time, LAPG had a sale on Maxpedition stuff and I ordered a PILI for $24 bucks plus $6 shipping.

I am also going to consider what RIDE suggested. I have the hideout holster and mag pouch, I am going to play with the PILI for a while and definitely purchase some other suggestions in the near future to supplement when I am off duty!

thanks

This guy would probably make you anything you can draw up. He has a really nice bag named the 'wingman' but it's like $300 or so. You get choose all the colors, material, thread, patterns.

I have been thinking about and testing a similar concept as the OP’s. (Though, I think the actual handgun should ALWAYS be attached to your body via a holster for obvious reasons.) This is what I came up with. (Bear in mind, EVERYTHING is a compromise….. i.e. speed vs concealment.)

You need to consider your particular area of operation (Where you intend to carry this setup.) and look at what everyone else (civilians) around YOUR area use as a bag to carry stuff, if you want to blend in. (Think urban camouflage, Grayman, etc.)

I came up with this:
https://www.google.com/search?q=cinch+bag+drawstring&espv=2&biw=1920&bih=965&source=lnms&tbm=isch&sa=X&ved=0CAcQ_AUoAmoVChMIkMH3_uqcyQIVSDk-Ch2cYwtu

And as cheap as less than $2:
https://www.discountmugs.com/category/personalized-drawstring-bags/?utm_source=google&utm_medium=cpc&utm_term=%2Bcinch%20%2Bbags&utm_content=82769994141&utm_campaign=(2013)+Bags&mm_campaign=5240BD079F071097F942AE10B4D031E2&mm_keyword=%2Bcinch%20%2Bbags&gclid=CLi8zvbsnMkCFUo8gQodZk4BGw

Everyone (kids, old people, etc.) in my locality often carry something of the type linked above in one type or another. I have bought a couple in different colors (Hell, my bank branch even gives these away with their logo for advertisement) and have carried gun-related stuff in it without anyone taking a second look. (Even on the mass transit system) However, my handgun (Glock 19) is always on me via a IWB.

Pro’s:
- VERY lightweight and can collapse, folded, and be stuffed into your jeans’ pocket.
- VERY low profile and common
- Looks super inexpensive because it is, so unlikely to draw attention. (Did I mention it is super common in my locality?) In some areas of my locality, ANYTHING that looks expensive or cool (even if it’s just the bag) risks some mouth-breather snatching it. "Cool" this bag is not.
- Can be compartmentalized inside if utilized with a compartmentalized interior “sub-bag”. Personally, I’ve been thinking of rigging up an internal, removable, molle “board” to attach pouches in an organized, but adjustable way.
- Water resistant (There may be even water-proof ones out there too.)

Con’s
- Drawstring main compartment may be slower than a zipper (Bear in mind, EVERYTHING is a compromise….. i.e. speed vs concealment.). Drawstring may also require two hands to access (Pull open the drawstring) and the stuff inside won't be so accessible on the fly or while running and gunning. But conversely, no one will be able to pickpocket your stuff verses the zipper. And like I said, I don’t carry my handgun inside the bag.
- “string” shoulder straps may not be the most comfortable compared to the padded shoulder straps of dedicated tactical gun bags, but I have kept mine lightweight and find no strain or pain or other problems, even when I “load heavy” with a couple of 16.9oz bottles of water. Though a wrap around shoulder pad attached by velcro, can be rigged around the strings, I guess. (But it might make it un-KISS, therefore possibly “expensive-looking”, and unusual.) I also have used my sunglasses to clip the drawstring shoulder straps together at the chest, sort of like the heavy-duty camping backpacks that have those center chest straps. This takes a load off the shoulders and prevents slippage. I discovered this "feature" only because I was tired of wearing my sunglasses and wanted to park them somewhere convenient.

There are some higher quality ones too. i.e. better materials, better stitching, thicker drawstrings, etc. The REALLY cheap, even free ones are practically disposable (I initially used these as proof of concept and they still held up). But the more expensive ones (like a single dollar more expensive) hold up even better! Very durable.

Try to get a higher quality one w/ reinforced grommets at the bottom corners and in medium to darker colors if you think your stuff will print. Same idea that applies to clothing to avoid printing and to conceal unnatural bumps.

Give it a shot. And if it doesn’t work, you’re not out a lot of scratch and can use the bag for other non-tactical uses. Win-win.

Let us know how it works out for you. I hope I don’t start too much of a fad, so that these cinch bags will be typecast and scream GUN like the fanny packs do.
