Im new to glocks but am looking to purchase a 9mm glock 19 or a .45 glock 30. This pistol will be used primarily for concealed carry. Any input is grately appreciated. thanks.

9mm is:

lighter
effective
cheaper
ubiquitous
space efficient

The G19 is the perfect handgun. I like the G30 but it's too wide to conceal IMO.

G19. Easily the best all-around Glock on the market

I'll have to agree with the other gentlemen here...

I don't even like Glocks and I still have a G19. They carry easily, they are reliable, cheap to train with, and they hold lots of bullets.

G19. I've owned both. The G19 I'd buy again. The G30 I wouldn't.

I love the easy questions.

I would probably go with a 19, but the 30 is a fine gun. The example I shot was a very accurate.

Glock 19 for sure, I don't like .45 Glocks...

Instead of casting my vote for which Glock model you should carry, I would suggest that you first do some research and shooting of both calibers side by side. When shooters ask me what model they should buy for their first Glock or other pistol, I normally respond that they should first take their time to select what caliber they will shoot best before getting to make and model selection. Usually this means going with them to my Gun Club and having them shoot different makes and models side by side.

And, if you are new to Glocks I'll go out on a limb and suggest that you also try to rent and shoot the M&P 9 and 45. I'm a happy Glock owner, have owned them for a long time and will forever. However, the M&P's should be considered by anyone not already used to Glocks. I feel that both are superior Combat Handguns, but that the M&P offers some features that some (maybe just me) of us Glock owners wish were available for our Glocks.

Caliber selection first (take your time)
Make and Model second.

I currently have all the Glock models in 9mm, .40, and .45acp. My main carry gun is the G30. Why? - It is over .4 cal. Why are the special forces going for .45's - They work.
It's a personal choice. Shoot them both, then chose the one that you like, fits your hand and you can control.
I just feel better when the cal starts with a .4 or larger. Just personal preference. By the way, I shoot my best scores with a G19 - it's the do everything gun.

Without a doubt, the G19.

Which special forces would those be?

I heard from a very well informed handgun instructor that Delta uses highly customized 1911 .45's. . . . . ?

But I haven't heard through Pentagon sources of any procurements on a wide scale basis for example Rangers, Green Berets, or any others? And it's news to me that the Seals have put down their Berreta 9's for .45s? But, a lot is news to me.

I still like .4 or bigger. Personal choice.

Just curious, and it is personal choice, but why do you like .4 or bigger but not .355? Didn't you say you shoot a G19 .355/9mm better? Shouldn't that be more important? Not criticizing, just interested in why people choose the caliber they do.

I always thought that a .45 hole was better that a .36 hole if the hollow points did not open up. Big holes in Bad Guys appeal to me. Plus I have shot .45's for the last 40+ years of my life. I like them. the round is accurate and it is big. Yes I shoot a 19 and a 17 in IDPA SSP. I can shoot them accuractely and fast. But I can shoot a CDP class gun almost as fast and I feel more comfortable with a big bullet. My favorite gun is BHP in 9mm.
Like I said - personal choice - Nothing against 9mm - I carry them at times and with new bullet designs, they have a good record, same for the forties. I'm just an old guy that grew up with the .45. I like them - no other reason - just personal preference. I grew up with 1911's but I now like Glocks. I have not gotten rid of any 1911's, they are more accurate and are better looking but at my age and my health, I shoot the Glock better uder pressure. I assume I'll go to 9mm some day do to physical limitations but as long as I have a choice, why not the .45?????

I'm sure there are some "Spec ops" guys who have .45's over there. At least with regards to the JSOC and SOCOM units I've dealt with, however, not so much. At least one high-profile unit ditched its .45-cal 1911's in favor of .40-cal Glocks.

In fairness to your argument, that same unit previously used 9mm Glocks and they, too, wanted the bigger bullet that began with the number "4" since they often must use FMJ ammo (and because many in the unit were married to the idea of a .45 in the first place). My only involvement with that procurement was from the vendor side, however, so I can't claim to know the full picture.

All I have is the conversations with friends and what they have seen and what they have told me. Nothing 1st hand.
I love big big cals even in rifles. If I had a choice, I would take a >30 over a .223. For that matter< I wou;ld take a .416 over a .30 but I can no longer take the recoil - even the .30 cal is hurting lately. The 5.56 is about all the punishment I am willing to pay for lately. I have even picked up a 9mm (not a .45) AR to play with. If I keep going at this rate - .22 LR is going to be my cal of choice.

I still like the .45 acp

although in my outfit you could carry a personal handgun provisional to the OIC's approval.
i have a number of pals that carried the 45 cal, and a few assorted types like 40&357sig that could be retrofitted with 9mm if their ammo was running low. and we still had the m9s.

I'll just add another log on the fire in favor of the G19.

I used to own a G30 and sold it. In addition to the reasons already listed, while there is nothing "wrong" with the G30, it is subjectively a clunky brick of a gun compared to the G19, or just about any gun to be honest. I have large hands and very long fingers and it still felt too thick in my hands.

I'd stick with 9mm in the Glock realm (G17/19/26/34), for a number of reasons.

I've shot but never owned a G30. I've had the G36.
I still have the G19 and a G21. For carry, get the 19.

dbrowne1, have you gripped a G30SF? Just wondering if you think the G30SF also feels to thick?

I am not even in the market for another pistol, yet everyone here has almost convinced me to go out and buy a G19.

G19! In the Glock it doesn't get any better.

Go to a rental range and try the different models. Each person is different - size, ability, FEEL, etc. Make sure what ever you buy, it fits you and your needs - not someone elses. You have to pay for it and you have to carry it.
TRY THEM and then make a decision.

I have no experience with the G30SF (or the G21SF). The G30 was my only foray into Glocks in a caliber other than 9mm ... and will probably be my last.

As of right now, this is incorrect(caliber). ;)

I own both, and carry a G30SF in a Comp-Tac Holster and love it. It shoots like a charm and is balanced very well. It is indeed wider but the Comp-Tac holsters makes this manageable. The 19 is a great weapon as well. Cant go wrong with either bro.

Will a G30 fit in a Comp-Tac CTAC holster for a G19?
Or is the G30 too wide to fit??

g30 is too wide to fit..but if you loose the tension screw on the comptac it may fit..

I thought about it over and over again,
For ergonomics and over all comfort i think
Glock = 9mm
45acp= Hk45c, S&W MP45s, Sig 220, Hk45...
oh yeah and a $2,500
1911
So Glock 19, if you live in a state that doesnt allow 15 round mags, get a glock 26 it is very accurate

Beating a dead horse here. Go shoot both, figure out one best suits your skill set/hand/etc., and go foward. Both are good platforms.

An aside, who cares what our boys in harms way carry. As long as it gets the job done.

G19 FTW!

If you're talking .45 cal, start thinking 1911 ACP immediately. Those onyl deserve metal frames, slides and all the good looks of a fine hand gun woth polished steel and rosewood grips...etc.

The G19 is strictly a nice, fine, small, shooter. Not much to look at IMO...well not as easy on the eyes as a beautiful 1911 masterpeice. The G19 is better all around to carry, and it's cheap to just go shoot the shit out of a lot of shit.

Let's move past the "this Glock vs. that Glock" threads.

Do a Google search of the site; these topics have been covered numerous times in excruciating detail.

When in doubt, get a Glock 19.
