Maryland college closes campus until Nov. 29 amid hunt for missing student with gun

Washington College in Maryland announced Tuesday that it was closing its campus this week and the week of Thanksgiving amid an ongoing search for a student who disappeared after returning to his Pennsylvania home and retrieving a gun.

The Washington Post identified the student Tuesday as Jacob Marberger, a 19-year-old sophomore from the Philadelphia area. The paper reported that Marberger was suspended from school for a week and a half last month after allegedly brandishing an antique .22-caliber handgun while intoxicated in his fraternity house.

The Post reported that Marberger returned home during his suspension and made concerning social media posts Sunday night and early Monday. Later that day, Marberger's parents contacted the university and said he had taken a rifle case from their home and was despondent about school. He has not been seen since Monday morning.

The college says it hasn't received direct threats against the campus.

On one hand....it looks bad. On the other maybe he just went to have personal choir practice by plinking in the woods.

You can't just assume someone is guilty because they are weird.
Sometimes in a young man's life they need to abscond. To the hills, the beach, a bigger city, or what have you to do some soul searching.

Maybe he's sick of his frat, sick of High School 2.0 (AKA College) and just needs to be somewhere else for a while.

At one point this was a healthy rite of passage more productive than 'finding yourself' in Europe.

Holidays around the corner, guess someone wasn't ready to take finals.

Definitely overboard, but so is waving a gun around while drunk at a frat party.

Week and a half suspension seems light.

Makes me wonder if his was brandishing or just hammered and broke his antique out to show it off and someone flipped out. He is probably out hunting and will come back to a WTF.
