I have a Colt LE6921 upper in stock form that is currently running like a top.

If I do the following:

-replace delta ring, barrel nut, and handguard with a Larue 11.0 freefloat handguard
-shave down the FSB so it fits under the Larue (professionally done by Adco)

will these affect the reliability of the upper?

An armorers block will be used to hold the upper secure, the Larue barrel nut will be torqued correctly using a GI barrel wrench and torque wrench, moly grease will be used on the threads, etc.

You'll be fine. Ken Elmore even does that for his "Operator" uppers.

I'd start with a new upper and build it the way you want from the start.
