Over the weekend there were large raids in Belgium for terror suspects.

Belgium sent their pipe hitters (SFG) into the slum aka Muslim enclave of Sint-Jans-Molenbeek, here they are seen with their FN SCAR-Ls:

Belgian Paratroopers armed with FNCs and FN-2000s were stationed all over the country in support of various raids and a heightened level of security at sensitive sites to include government buildings and a Jewish neighborhood.

As cool as this all is, it's generally pretty useless if the government is allowing in thousands of the enemy, and allowing those already there (including many born there) to fester their hatred in mosques, behind closed doors and in their communities that will never assimilate to the 21st century, or the 8th century for that matter.

From our experience in Afghanistan and Iraq, this enemy prefers to hide among civilians in the face of superior armed opposition. When you have uniformed guys around, they won't come out and fight. Europe needs to arm its citizens. The sheep need to be given some teeth.

Belgium, France, Germany, Austria are all gonna take it in the shorts until the come to the conclusion having these folks in your country isn't an conducive to peace and prosperity.

I do not wish to make light of a terrible situation. That said, they all look like something out of a Luc Besson movie. Where everyone has a different, weird Euro gun.

Seriously, play orchestral soundtrack from Nikita or Leon and it matches.

Bonus points to SWAT ninja with the UZI giving a "wish a MFer would" vibe.

It has been necessary to do that for a long time. I don't think the politicians have wits to see that, nor the balls to actually do it.
The crapy part is that in order to defeat fascism, one will have to appear fascist. When you have 10's of millions of fascists living in your country, there simply is no other way.

Lol, yeah, as if the threat is something you can take out in one weekend.
They will catch/kill this group of jihadis. There's already 100's of such attacks in the works, and thousands willing to carry them out, and millions supporting their aims.
THe next attack will come, flowers will be laid, John Lennon songs will be sung, candles will be lit, more Sharia will come, more civil liberties will be lost, and the Muslims will spread, all the while the media will keep warning us about "backlash", Islamophobia and restraint.

It might be just me but a 9mm AUG seems rather pointless especially given that the officers side arm is probably 9mm.

Handguns with stocks, basically.

Easier to shoot accurately and quickly to a longer range.

Right, I'd still prefer mine chambered in 5.56, otherwise give me an MP5 or other subgun to fling 9mm.

Subguns are kind of a Cold War era hold over.
The CAR-15/XM-177E1 was actually one of the first real attempts at an SBR. People could argue for the AK but...meh the technology wasn't quite there yet.

Most SMGs are blowback. Plus people think a pistol caliber isn't as 'bad' as a rifle round. That and Body Armor wasn't so common.

Now....SMGs seem quaint. If I could have one...and only one...I want an M1 Thompson. I've shot Colts (they a'ight), MP5s (they a bit better), UMPs (which we call Uh-mps down here. Hated it.).

But I got to play with an old M1 Thompson and no other gun, save for a Colt Single Action or a Garand, makes you feel like Eastwood, the Duke, and Charles Bronson all at once.

Now that FNC is probably one of the coolest looking rifles I've seen in a while...
It's got a really great "old-school star wars meets post-apocalypse" vibe going on there- like something you could see either Boba Fett or Mad Max toting.

I find it interesting that apparently irons only still seems to be the order of the day there, even on rifles like the above where it could have an optic.
I mean, obviously, an Uzi probably will likely never see that option available, but still...

SteyrAUG
11-23-15, 21:05
Is the 5.56 not?

Yes it is. Just as the HK53 is 5.56 and the MP5 is 9mm in a similar size package. One has inherent advantages over the other depending upon applications and 9mm SMG vs. 5.56 short assault rifle has been debated for awhile now.

But given the fact that the threat is likely to be terrorists wearing explosives and armed with AKM type weapons, I'd probably prefer a 5.56 platform as well.

The big thing to me is that so few of them have weapon lights.

I can see environmental concerns for not wanting to have or rely on an optical sight (winter, northern Europe... snow, rain, high humidity and low temperatures)... but no white lights? Not even old incandescents? I guess that makes sense in 1990 or 2000, but 2015? Seems like a Bad Idea.

I like the Brunette on the right. Very pretty:)

I've shot the FNC and it was a very accurate rifle with just iron sights. I liked that it used standard AR mags too. They are just too pricey now.

I got a kick out of all the Beretta M12's the French were using. Wanted one of those since I was in middle school. Knew a guy who shot a local steel match with one. He let me shoot it and it was very controllable. He even had a custom made can and optic mount for a mini RDS.

Try this. The FN Uzi was adopted by German tanker crews as the MP2 in 1959.

And because somebody is certain to ask, the MP1 was the Beretta Model 38/49. The MP2 was the Uzi. The MP3 and MP4 were reportedly the Walther MPL and MPK. The MP5 is the military designation for what was originally the HK-54.

They would feel like they needed them if they spent any time using said weapons in real life, vs. just going to the range.
