View Full Version : EOTech 512 - Reticle seems to fade out as it nears the left of the glass???

So I noticed on the EOTech 512 (2011 model) that when I am viewing the reticle as I move my head to the left and not looking dead center straight now the glass the brightness and reticle start to Really Fade away as it nears the left edge of the glass (whether left center or top or bottom left, still fades). BUT when adjusting my head to the glass to bring the reticle to the right, top and bottom it stays consistently bright throughout all the way to the edge and does not fade as it exits my view from the other edges of the glass ... the brightness of the reticle Des Not Fade At All on other edges of the glass or the the entire left side.

And Not only when it reaches the edge ... almost just as soon as you start moving your head to bring that reticle away from dead it starts to fade and get almost to no brightness as at all once it reaches the edge.

This of course is a bit annoying as being a RH shooter I tend to move my head to the left off the stock a bit and as the reticle gets to far left it fades to almost nothing and during the day somewhat unusable.

But when the reticle is in the center it's as bright as can be!

Anyone seen this before? Is this common at all? I just noticed this today.

Thanks so much for any thoughts and feedback you can provide! :)

Yep, it's a known issue & has been talked about here numerous times.
Contact EOTech for repairs. Word on the street is that they fix it for free.

The more I look I see it as well when I bring the tricle out of the bottom as well ... not as bad but it does fade out for sure.

When bringing the reticle out of the top of right of the glass it doesn't fade AT ALL ... stays just as bright as it is in the center and just exits the glass just as bright.

Ya I googled it and seems to be an issue with not just older 512 type models even new XPS models even!

I am test running this 512 that a buddy let me borrow but now thinking I may just pass on getting a used one like this and get something new. Not sure how long EOTech warranties this type of issue being manufactured in July of 2011 and not sure if the warranty only applies to the original purchaser as well (I think I would be the 3rd owner of this optic if so).

As you know it's VERY hard to get a EOTech reticle on camera ... but this kinda shows what I mean.

The fading is much worse then the pictures show but as you can see it is still Perfectly BRIGHT exiting the right side ... BUT dim and very low brightness exiting the left ... and even dulls to about half the brightness only half way on the left of the of the glass as well.

Here are a few pics .........

Last pic seems bright but in daylight regular light is so dim it's almost nothing!!! Shocked at all the bad stuff I am seeing and reading about EOTech now!

I just saw something like this happening on a shooting course 2 weeks ago and I thought my mind was playing games. Mine is one of the new ones XSP? XPS? and its only 1 year old.... might have to give them a call

They'll fix it for free. Again, this is a heavily discussed issue.
