I used to be cutting edge.

I was the first person I knew with a RDS on pistol with an Aimpoint 1000 in the 80s.

I had the first AR of anyone I knew. A Colt SP1 in the early 80s.

I was the first guy among my buddies to buy a new Beretta. I was the second guy I knew with a Glock. The second guy I knew with a 10mm. I had a Glock 26 about the day they shipped. I had a double stack 45 decades ago. I had a 9x21 barrel and compensator and stuff that was rare to see in person.

No civilian I knew had a thigh holster and light for their Beretta with pre Surefire light like I did in the 90s. But I got my one for my personal gun.

But, stuff gets outdated. You like what you have and get sick of getting all new stuff at some point.

At some point, you are no longer cutting edge.
I did not jump on the 40 bandwagon. I finally looked at it and got some guns, and used my 10mm dies to reload for it, pretty much about the day before it became uncool.

I was slow to adopt Pmags or lancers. And various other being behind the times things.

With the new Production optics, I finally decided to dip my toe in the slide mounted MRDS. I grabbed a FF2 and planned to put it on a 92G. But it won't make weight for the division. And needs a hole drilled and traded.

I decided to throw one on a used G17 I had not cut down yet. I looked at various mounts. I went with an offering from Strike Industries. Pluses are it puts in a threaded back plate, and allows use of your front sight in a pinch and forms its own rear sights. Minus is it sits about a quarter inch higher than a milled or flat mount.

I was concerned about function, but my reloads and WWB and FC Walmart 100 round boxes work fine. I sighted in a touch low at 7 and dead on At 25.

No issues.

I think the ideal set up for a RDS allows for iron back up. But not high like this. I would prefer mounting as low as possible on a milled slide and having a mount with intrinsic rear sights or mounted ahead of rear suppressor height sights.

Now,
This post is for others that have not gone to a slide mounted RDS for to look at an option to give it a try.
This will work.

I have not quite wrapped my mind around as anything but for a game gun at this point do to some issues.

Any feedback on the issues appreciated on non game gun applications.

When do you turn it on? I can leave an Aimpoint on a carbine on. I can turn on and check my Eotech before getting into a Stryker, Pandur, 60, 47, etc.

If I want to carry or use it for home defense I want it on all the time.

But what kind of battery life will I get?
And for many of these sights, a battery change is kind of a pain and it makes me worry about if it is still zeroed.

Some guns have a flat top of the slide perfect for these. Others do not.
