That's kinda neat.
It looks like the built-in backup irons are designed mainly to pull the RMR's red dot into your field of view by allowing your eyes to index a standard pistol front sight/rear sight picture. If this mount is able to speed up finding the red dot, that is a major plus and it addresses one of the weaknesses of using micro-RDS' on pistols.
I'm guessing the greatly reduced sight radius means the irons are emergency backups only and not designed to function with the same accuracy as standard pistol iron sights. In turn, that means the RMR must be reliable (which is not the same thing as Trijicon having a great repair policy).
