I have a budget build 300 AAC gun with a can and a budget 3x9 on it for launching subsonics. It is for the loft of a barn and tossed in a Gator to glass for coyotes spooking the horses and making off with barn cats. You can always get more cats, but you can't stop the wife and daughters from missing barn cats.

I have not had a chance to tag one during the day.

My days of rolling with free 50-50s, 15s, NV compatible EoTechs, and PEQs are over.

The closest houses to me are 450m to the West, 400m to the South, 550m to the East, and 600m to the North.
I have woodline from 90 - 150 meters from my house on all sides.

So shooting range would be under 150m.

One of the horses has gone Ike on Tina on a fox in her pasture, but the coyotes crossing the property, and usually at the woodline 90m from me spook the hell out of them, mess up their sleep, wake up one of my daughters, etc.

Usually around midnight to 2AM or so they are active as hell in that area but I cannot see them.

I would like a scope that I can use in the day time, and switch over to look for them in the dark. IR light is fine.

This is a beater gun, so a budget offering as long as waterproof and holds a zero is fine.

Thank you for any information.

The Leupold VXR, Vortex Viper 1-4x, SWFA 1-4 would all fit your needs. Sometimes Natchez Shooters Supply has great deals on Weaver 1-4 or 1-5. These are generally the non-tactical scopes without a fancy reticle or turrets but an illuminated reticle. There are many good choices. Also I would recommend the 110 Vmax out of the 300 BLK for those coyotes. Fast expanding.

Thanks,

Supersonics and the scope reccs are great for daytime.

I am already good to go for daylight.

I need to shoot them in the dark at 2AM.

They pop smoke and break contact when a light comes on.

I am using subs so super quiet at 2AM.

By budget I mean I am not dropping 2k for an optic that rides in the back of a gator.

I need a cheap NV scope or illuminator.

Have you considered a straight fixed power?

Maybe a 4X or 6X power Leupold scope in the FX line. I own and used a FX 2.5x20mm scope on an AR and it was a great optic for fast close-range, & snap shots. Very sturdy scope and would definitely stand up to being carried in a pick-up.

I would have no problem using it out to 150 yards on coyote sized targets.

The fixed power scopes are great for early dawn or low-light. Used in conjunction with a red light flashlight could be a viable option.

A friend once had a ranch house with a lot of coyotes in the area. Their large breed dogs tore them apart several times. Could a large dog work as a deterrent?

they do make varmit hunting lights that would be the cheapest way to go. they mount on the scope.

Father-in-law might get one of these in 3-12x:

EDIT: Ok, I also sent him this scope as a cheaper option.

To be honest, I did not even know this segment of affordable NV scopes existed. I am off to do some research!
