After a lot of research and input from M4C, I finally finished setting up my PC. I have previous experience with a variety of issued plates and plate carriers during about a dozen overseas deployments with the Air Force between 1995 and 2006. I wanted to put together my own PC for general home defense and to have the gear for potential shoot house class. I wanted it to be relatively light weight and the ability to run it relatively slick.

I’ve had great experience with HSGI belts and tacos over the last several year, so I figured their new SPC Slick Plate Carrier would be perfect for my project. After emailing HSGI customer service they said that my plan to use SPC in conjunction with my Haley Strategic D3 chest should work. Once I got my plates and the SPC, it became apparent that this combo would only work using the D3 as a full chest rig over the SPC. That wasn’t what I was looking for, so I ending up adding the HSGI new Chest Platform which was specifically designed to be used in conjunction with the SPC. Small than the D3, the Chest Platform is also more rigid giving the load a the CP a bit more support.

The back of the Chest Platform has a padded backing attached with hook and loop. Removing it reveals two rigid hook and loop straps designed to interface with the MOLLE on the SPC.

Once attached to the SPC simply lift the platform, place the SPC side straps on the hook and loop field and secure the platform over the top. Everything sits snugly and has no noticeable movement, even while running.

The SPC is by far the most comfortable PC I’ve ever put on. The shoulder pads are made out of the same material as the HSGI Sure-grip belts. There is also padding on the front and back of the SPC that prevent hot spots and allow for increased air flow.

I should mention that the SPC is a Medium and the 10x12 SKD plate fit perfectly. One nice thing HSGI added was a heavy duty hanger that has no problem supporting the fully loaded SPC. Over all I’m extremely happy with the set up:

Nice rig/set-up. Thanks for the posted pics, because you confirmed how the chest rig was designed to mate with the plate carrier... I was not entirely sure. I have both the chest rig and plate carrier, as well. I can always count on HSGI to come out with high quality gear that I'm looking for. Wanted a plate carrier with no side plate coverage to keep weight down and less bulk while being worn. Chest rig has the Covered XR2 Rifle Taco Pouches(x2) and the M3T Medical Pouch, so it's set-up a little more on the overt-side. I went with Level III UHMWPE plates that are both lightweight(3lbs./plate) and buoyant.
