View Full Version : Has there been an attempt to make "slide-less" handgun since Desert Eagle?

Got curious since the birth of ALG's 6 second mount.
(which was made to negate the violent recoil faced by slide-mounted optics)

Apart from numerous blow-back operated 22s, I think SilencerCo's integrally suppressed 9mm pistol would count.

If you don't count SMGs that are sold as semi auto pistols there are not many outside of .22 pistols. The KARD from KRISS is probably a contender for this concept if it ever gets made.

Looks quite interesting. First time I've seen this.

Same here, I've been eyeing KRISS for a long time, but today is the first time I've learned of it.

That's a good question. The Browning short recoil tilting barrel design has come to dominate the auto loading handgun market as it is the cheapest acceptably reliable design to manufacture. Outside of that the only other designs that would not require a slide are things like toggle lock and blow back which have been abandoned due to weight, manufacturing complexity, or round restrictions.

Honestly I wouldn't even call the Desert Eagle slide less.

It has a shorter slide that does not cover the front of the barrel, the front of the barrel is shaped to match the slide (not round), and on it (the barrel) an optic could be mounted.

ETA: Big difference is the desert eagle is gas operated and does not need a tilting or rotating barrel.

I don't know the design well enough but perhaps a rotating lock design like the grand power series could be made like this

There is always the underwater pistol from Hk. Made out of unobtainium.

I always wondered how a well built gas 9mm, basically a scaled down DE would function.

HK P7. It has a fixed barrel, and uses a gas port in the barrel, but it is different than the Desert Eagle. It is a "gas delayed blow back" design, meaning the gases push/hold the slide shut until pressure drops, then it operates on a blow back principle.

Weird, but cool. Never looked much into them. Why do you think no one else used this design, cost or reliability?

It looks like Dan Loves' creation might be coming to the market.

The Walther CCP uses the same basic design

In my opinion, they are inherently the most reliable handgun design since they do nbot need an extractor/ejector to function. They cost a lot of money though.

So did Wilson in the ADP and the Heritage Stealth.
