I'm excited to start working in my 9mm AR tonight. I'm still waiting for a new frontier BCG. I believe I have all the parts I need for the build in my parts bin here at home. I planned to use a Spikes 9mm buffer and Wolf Spring. I just read about using an A5 set up on a 9mm. I have one onhand. Have you used one or shot one?

I don't have a bbl or rail for this upper yet. I would like to use a 7" KMR and a 4.5" bbl from ADCO. I have a fake suppressor I would use to fill the gap until I can get a 9mm can.

I am trying to sell this Colt upper here in the EE but I might just keep it until I SBR this lower.

Can't be much help, as I haven't had any experience with a 9mm lower/upper. What I can say though, is the machining on that Angstadt is mint!

The detail on that mag release alone is phenomenal.

Can't wait to see your final product, thanks for sharing!

Thanks. It will be fun. I have been drooling over these for a year. https://angstadtarms.com
I wanted the factory SBR but I can build one for less because I already have so many of the parts. I only need a bbl I already have a rail. But I really want another KMR.

Do you mind linking where you read about the A5 system on a 9mm? I plan on going that route myself.

I can't find the one I read. It was on ar15.com

Looking at my parts bin I am thinking about using the Spikes 9mm buffer. It is longer and heavier than the A5 I have.

I might try the 9mm buffer with the A5 rifle length spring in my A5 RE.

Guys I had my lower built with the exception of the safety. I could not get the safety core installed. The trigger bar would not go down far enough to let the AXTS core in. I took the lower apart and noticed this pin almost centered in the bottom. This is why it would not go through. What the hell is the purpose, can I grind it? I might just use another trigger. I bought the FCG here on the EE and was told it was a BCM. Not sure if it is now.

Thank you for the links. My New Frontier Armory lower took every AR part I had for it, no problems. What other parts are you putting on the complete rifle?

usmcvet
02-18-16, 05:29
Glad the links helped. I don't have an AR pistol and to save the wait and $200 I'm going to make this a pistol.

My New Frontier BCG showed up yesterday. It is a DSG LPK minus the FCG. I now need a new FCG. The one I have isn't working. I will probably order a KAK Shockwave now that I need to order a new FCG. I was planning on a Noveske end plate for my QD sling. The barell length is what's getting me. I would like a 1/2x28 thread so I can spin on a suppressor when I get one. So it thinking 4-6". 4" would work better I believe to keep standard rounds subsonic.

I got the FCG question squared away here.

I shot 50 rounds through the rifle today. I used an OEM G18 33 round magazine and a PMag 17 round magazine. I am using a Colt A1 upper and 16” Colt bbl. The BCG is from New Frontier. I have a Voltor A5 RE on the rifle with the standard buffer.

I had three or four failures with the PMag. Then the Glock 18 mag started acting the same way. If I held the bolt release closed it ran fine. I'm sure the issue is with the bolt hold open/release bar. It is very loose in the gun. It is installed with roll pins I don't see a way to tighten it is by bending it. I could obviously just remove it too. I removed the partially full magazine and shot the round in the chamber and the bolt stayed open too.

I spoke to Rich with AA by email. The BHO is supposed to be loose. It is held in place when the upper is assembled. The issue may be the spring on the bolt release. I used the shorter spring they supplied. It could still be too long. Not sure. Waiting to call Rich later today. I'm very impressed with the quick responses I have had directly from the owner of AA. He gave me his direct number and told me he would work with me to get he gun running right. That is outstanding Customer Service. I'm impressed.

What kind of failures? Premature lock-back?

What kind of failures? Premature lock-back?

Exactly. Rich from AA suggested I get a standard RE on the gun and take off the A5. I ordered one today. I have a Wolf extra power carbine spring and a Spikes ST-9 buffer I will use. I might put 6/7 quarters into it until I get the new RE next week.

I shot another fifty rounds. Well I got about ten off and my 13 year old shot the other forty! I switched to the ST9 buffer and added six quarters below the spring in the RE. There were no more BHO failures. I had one failure to feed.

I bought it as a complete pistol from Angstadt. I added the glass, laser, Elf Trigger and compensater. After some testing, I think I like the LanTac USA DGN9MMB 9mm Dragon best so far.

Here is a pic on the gun.

Here is the typical sort of accuracy I am getting off my cheek at about 3 sec per round.

Good write up. This is my first post on the forum, but long time shooter. Im building an ar9 with the AA receiver set, and their bcg. Just waiting on my buffer and i can give her a test run.

Rich from AA was great answering my emails, and their parts are very high quality.

Welcome Aboard. This is a great forum. I agree Rich is outstanding! I'm looking for a barrel now to build up on the AA upper. I want something short. In the 4" to 5" range. I'm trying to decide on a 7" or 8" BCM KMR rail. A 3 lug TROS HBO is in the running but I will probably get a bit with 1/2x28 threads so I can out a fake can on it until I get a 9mm suppressor. I did that with a short .22 build. I would like to get a 9mm suppressor and SBR the lower. I wish I had a money tree in the back yard.

I want one of these too:

I'm going to order a Hahn mag block to use in one of my SBR's while I wait for paperwork on this lower. I have some Colt magazines on my he way.

I have a TROS bbl inbound and a 7" BCM KMR. I will need a FH to make up the difference to the end of the rail. I just confirmed the 5" TROS will extend about 4" forward of the barrel nut.

Help me decide. This is what I was thinking its 3.3"

These are options too.

From the barrel nut threads forward to the muzzle is 4.0".

I used ATF online e forms to send in three form 1's yesterday. One to SBR this 9mm lower. One for two AR lower's I engraved years ago with the intent to SBR them. I also sent in a pair of form 1's for my first silencers. This 5" 3 lug bbl from TROS was in the mail box today! Hopefully a good sign.

This one 9mm AR is becoming two or at least 1.5! A new JP bolt arrived today along with a pair of Colt 32 round mags. New Old Stock. Marked June 1998. I have a Hahn Mag Well Adapter on the way from Brownells. That way I can get this 9mm SBR upper on one of the SBR's I already have and I can run it!
