Does anyone know if there are any current rail adapters for a standard 1911. I know Surefire used to make one. Would like to put a light on my Kimber raptor, without mucking it up.

I had a long write up. Here's the condensed version. Purchase a pistol with an integral rail.

Brilliant. Never thought of that one... While that would be wonderful to just go buy another gun that has a rail just so I can put a light on it, I would rather use with what I've got if possible.

I had the surefire rail on a Springfield. **warning it WILL mark up the dust cover....plan on a refinish job if aesthetics mean anything to you. It's really your only option, and is a viable solution.
I still have one on Sig 2009 and its rock solid as was the 1911 one.

You could try this. Never even seen one in the flesh though.

I have a Recover Tactical grip/rail kit and it's the best option. It's very durable, comfortable, and perfectly reversible. I was actually really impressed with it. Best of all, it's cheap enough to take a gamble on.

As previously stated by Leavemor..., purchase a railed pistol.

The reasons for...
1. Holster availability.

2. Cost prohibitive (almost). A quality job is going to result in drill, tap, and silver soldering for a bullet proof installation which will require some type of finish work. Re-sale value will be lower to the 'in the know' due to holster availability. 10 years ago, it was a viable mod that has grown outdated with the availability of factory railed guns. Parts are probably still available at Brownells and this (personally) can be easilly installed if you have the proper tools for a semi-permanent installation without refinish work. If you have a local hidestretcher, he can make a holster for you but it will have to be wet molded and boned to your pistol prior to finishing unless he is a FFL holder.

Brownells has the Novak in blue, ss, and alloy along ith the Recover Tactical grip/rail bolt on model.
