About four years ago I bought my first 1911, a Colt Rail Gun. It was a toss-up between SA and Colt but I ultimately decided on the latter because my dad has a Colt from 1943. I bought the Rail Gun knowing that it was a good 1911, but fully intending to upgrade it in a few years. After about 500-1000 rounds, it went to a local 1911 smith to have the thumb safety replaced. The stock one didn't feel sharp to the touch, but after about 250 rounds in one day it had given me a blister on the web of my hand. My mind was pretty set on using only Wilson Combat Bullet Proof parts so I chose the single sided safety. Over the past two years I've slowly collected more parts from Brownells (it was never really the priority compared to the ARs). In mid September I got tired of waiting and contacted the Springfield Custom Shop. I shipped it on 29 September, using their Fedex package and it couldn't have been easier. I was told it would take about 3-4 months, I figured it'd be on the longer end with all of the work being done. In mid December, I was getting pretty anxious so I sent them an email. While they didn't email me with updates on their own, they responded in about a day and were super helpful to every one of my emails. They told me that they were only waiting on the front sight to come in from Dawson Precision but couldn't give me an ECD since they were waiting on an outside shop. I still hadn't heard anything by the second week of February so I sent them another email. They told me that they were still waiting but they offered to just make a front sight for me instead of keeping it any longer. I told them go for it and yesterday they called to tell me it was ready. I should have it back on Monday, so this post is a little premature but I will definitely post some pictures as soon as I can. Needless to say, I'm pretty stoked. I do wish I had sent in a few parts to be worked with it, but I can always send it back later. Once I have another 1911.

The only decent pics I have of it (finish was scratched some from the ambi safety removal)

Here is the work that was done:
Parts installed/fit - WC BP One Piece Magwell, Beavertail Grip Safety, Magazine Release, Slide Stop, Series 80 Extractor, Extended Ejector, and rear Battlesight.
Fiber Optic Front Sight (Wilson said their's would not fit Colt's Novak-ish cut)
25 LPI machine checker front strap and under the trigger guard
Fit slide to frame
Defense package (deburr pistol internally, tune extractor and ejector, recut barrel throat and polish feed ramp, install custom match bushing, check headspace, install new recoil spring and firing pin spring, tuned 4.5 pound trigger, reliability tuning, test fire and inspection)
Armory Kote flat black finish

I also had a set of grips and an X300U sent to Joint Force Enterprises to be hydro-dipped in Multicam Black.

Sounds a lot like how I set up a 1911. Would you mind sharing the cost of the work being done?

The labor comes out to right around $1200, plus the price for the Wilson parts I supplied.

So it's probably going to be the weekend before I actually get good ones, but damn, this thing is awesome. It's better than I expected, which is impressive because I had very high expectations.

I'm not a fan of the MC Black grips and light unfortunately. Not sure why, so that's a bummer but not a hard fix. The only thing I don't love about the gun (aside from wishing I had sent a medium length solid trigger to get fitted) is that the bushing is silver. I would've preferred it black, but that's pretty minor. The gun feels awesome and their Armory Kote looks way better than the factory cerakote did. Overall I'm extremely pleased and I already can't wait to get my next one to send to them.

Thanks guys. Here's the official list of work done, though I was hoping for a price breakdown:

"1911-A1 Defense Package
1911 Oversized NM SS BBL Bushing
Wolff Extra Power Firing Pin Spring
Machine Checker Front Strap 25LPI
Machine Checker Under Trigger Guard
Fit And Blend Customer Supplied
WC Magwell
WC Extractor
WC Ejector
WC Rear Sight
WC Beavertail
Dovetail Front Sight Green Fiber Optic
Boresighted For POA
Frame To Slide Fit
Inspect And Test Fire"

I was kind of surprised that they installed the Wolff firing pin spring. I don't know if maybe that was part of the Defense Package of they decided it just needed to be replaced.
