View Full Version : SBR Muzzle device suggestions
Any recommendations for a muzzle device to make shooting a 8 inch 5.56 indoors more tolerable? I would prefer the best combination of short length and effectiveness.
I know this question has been asked, but I was wondering if there are any new suggestions.
How would you rate these...
KAW Valley liner comp
Troy claymore
Kineti tec Blast Shield
Damage Industries muzzle projector
PWS CQB Comp
Get a flash hider, not a brake.

More tolerable to shoot in which way; recoil or blast mitigation?

put a suppressor on the muzzle device, otherwise...well enjoy the blast

Nothing is going to make an 8" 5.56 gun effective, or unlike setting off flash-bangs in your own face. A suppressor would at least make it tolerable to shoot.
A2. Really.. a brake or a flash hider are both going to be monumentally painful in a structure.
An 8" 5.56 AR can be a nightmare in too many ways. For many reasons, I would not choose this combination. There are other possible solutions for this package size with far less detriments.
If you're set on 8.5 inch, the pws will probably work best. Though, you'd be better off with at least 10.3 inches of barrel.

I would be very hesitant in recommending a 5.56 AR with a less than 11.5" for many reasons.

It will also eat the baffles of your suppressor faster than a normal carbine...
Which of the "blast diffusers" are the best? I have a 10.5 Noveske that currently has a KAC 3t on it, I was going to go with the Surefire pro comp, or surefire flash hider, and the Warden.
Anything better than that like the Griffon, PWS, or any other blast jacket hickee-do?

Blast, the recoil doesn't bother me

KAW Linear comp. I liked it on my 10.5" 5.56 barrel. It kicks the blast/concussion forward. I haven't used any of the others you listed.
My 10.5 is great with an AAC blackout. Flash is minimal and I don't notice increased blast over an M4 with an A2. Not saying there isn't more, just it hasn't been an issue and I've run it through a carbine course running drills in close proximity to others.

In that case, I'd check out the Noveske KX3. It should help send a lot of the blast downrange. (KX5 may also work but I haven't shot the KX5 yet so I can't recommend it.)
I want to know, too... I'm looking for a linear compensator, not for an AR, but for another gun.
Recoil is a non-issue, but mitigating noise/blast/concussion is important.
I don't want spend $100+ on this (much less $150 or 200+), but I like the looks of the KAW Valley, and it seems like the baffles might make a difference (vs. a basic $30.- "flash can").
EDIT: I wanted a Levang, but they seem to have been discontinued...

I have the Griffin Armament linear comp on a couple of short-barreled uppers, and it works well for directing the blast away from the shooter. It's also somewhat palatable at only $90ish.
kx3/ kx5 or the muzzle device used for the suppressor you should be buying. I don't like comps.

That's a little silly given that many militaries have adopted 10.~" barrels and they've been in service for years with incredible success.
But yeah, for an 8", it's not going to be pleasant. The best you can do is a KX3/5 from Noveske. But even then, you're adding so much overall length and weight you might as well do just a standard 10" with flash hider. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

I put a $35 krink from amazon on my 10.5 556 pistol and it made a world of difference all around. Everything pushes forward and flash is suppressed (enough).
Simple fact is, firing anything indoors without ears on is gonna suck no matter what.

That is the correct answer for any muzzle device question on a super short 5.56.
Anything else defeats the purpose of a 5.56 PDW. If you plan on adding length, do it with barrel length and not muzzle devices.
