View Full Version : leather gun belts (dress)

I need a dress belt for work and other business casual events.

I want a black leather belt, something with a modern, professional look, but rigid enough for a gun. Even without the gun, it seems every belt I buy breaks in a year, so I want heavy duty hardware. Industrial look is okay but cowboy and decorative stitching is out.

I want 1.5" wide.

Any recommendations? Google dissapointed me.

I'm going to watch this closely. I've had a Blade Tech leather, kydex reinforced, belt for a long time and it's now on itms final months.

I keep looking at Beltman but open to other ideas

Tucker gun leather in Texas.
Also, most leather stores can make a belt for you, if you have any saddle shops local, they can usually make you one.

IMO, the Beltman belt is too thick to be a proper dress belt. I have a Beltman 1.25" horse hide belt, and it's way too thick for me to pull off in dress clothes without looking out of place. It certainly has great support because of the thickness, but it looks pretty strange, at least with my fit/cut/build. I currently have a belt on order with JRC Leather for a custom belt; it's not one of his usual gun belts, but one of his custom dress belts that's more on his custom leatherworks side of things, a reinforced Chromexcel belt that I have explicitly asked him to make as thin as possible.

I've also heard of people using the Saddleback leather belts with success for EDC, including concealed carry.

I haven't personally tried any of these, but the products I do own from these companies have yet to let me down and I don't think I would hesitate to buy from either one.

My Bladetech belt lasted 8 years & I'd buy another. I've used a High Noon belt for the last year & it's held up great. The price was reasonable and I didn't have to wait weeks for it...

I wear the Mean Gene Leather Shooters and Aegis Victory belts and they are phenomenal. http://www.meangeneleather.com.

Gene is the former owner of High Speed Gear and he has gone back to his leather working roots. I have the Victory Aegis in Brown and a Shooters Belt in black. Both are 1.5" belts and I wear them for work pretty much every day. I have no issues wearing my IWB or OWB holsters with them, as they are extremely rigid and the leather isn't overly thick like on some of the other leather belts I have tried.

I like my Mean Gene but my spyderco G-hook won't fit on it and neither will the metal clips on a couple other sheaths. Did your belt tip split down to the thread? Mine did; I don't see it going any further but it gets hung a lot trying to get it through the Aegis buckle.

I would also add to this list http://aliengearholsters.com/

Alien Gear's belts have a spring steel core so they're going to be plenty rigid enough for a holster. They're solid black with a metal buckle. I wouldn't have a problem wearing one as a dress belt. They are about a quarter inch thick though so that may be an issue for you.

As an aside, saddleback leather company is a fantastic company for leather products. I do not personally own one of their belts, but I do own one of their briefcases. Its served as my daily work bag for almost 10 years now and it looks better now than when I first got it. Their big thing is a 100 year warranty. From a quality standpoint I would order anything from them without hesitation though I can not say if it would suit your particular needs. They make top notch stuff

I haven't had any quality issues with my MGL belts. Did you contact Gene to get yours fixed? As far as knife sheaths go, my EDC knife is a Strider SNG and it gets clipped into my pocket.

Naaa- it's still completely usable,
I was just curious. Part of my new WOD is to try to get that pin to roll all the way to the far right to lock it in. [emoji16]

I came here to say this. I like my Beltman belt, but it is too thick.

Bullhidebelts

Probably my favorite belt or at minimum tied for that position, and I have many belts...

Next belt I buy (which might not be for a while since I have too many) will probably be a Magpul one

I highly recommend Milt Sparks as well. I've tried several different belts for the same use as you described and they are by far the nicest belts I own. Get the pebble grain finish. Very professional looking but durable and functional for carry. In general I own several MS belts and holsters and they are the highest of quality and worth the price.

I agree. have used the same 1-1/4 black bull hide dress belt for 10 years now. I wear both OWB and IWB. They are very good quality and very stiff. Just follow their measuring instructions to get the right size.

I've been wearing a Magpul Tejas for a couple months now and really like it. The sizing is a little odd, though, even compared to what they say you should choose (size wise) on their website. I normally wear size 36 belts, my leather belts measure 36" from buckle to the notch with the most wear, but the size 36 belt was slightly small. When I decided to start carrying IWB again, I decided to go two belt sizes up, to 40, in the hopes of a belt that fit better - but it was slightly too large with a pistol IWB and way too large (ran out of notches) without. So I've ended up in a 38, which is actually about perfect: A little big but not unusually so for OWB and when not carrying and a little small but not unusually so for IWB.

I also really like the toolfree part of the belt - being able to replace the buckle without using (stupid) Chicago screws is really nice. (I hate Chicago screws.) And, of course, they now have a couple extra options for buckles from the factory, so you don't need to use the standard silver buckle if you don't want to. I like the dark pewter buckle, myself.

I started carrying a P14-45 in a Sparks VMII and belt about 11 years ago.
It is a very sturdy belt and it is thick as it was designed to be; to secure the gun and holster to your body.
Carrying that large double stack .45 was a pleasure.

Have switched to a Sig P226 in a Sparks VMII and the same belt.

Take care of your leather products and they will last a very long time.

I have a couple of Beltmans and 1 Milt Sparks. I'm happy will all three. One of the Beltmans is black and it gets used when I wear a suit. It's a bit thick as others have noted, but not a problem for me.

I ordered a Chocolate Magpul Tejas for the rotation with the lighter brown Beltman and Milt Sparks.

thebeltman.net makes an excellent belt.

These really are the best belts out there. The Horsehide with the stiffener is the shit. They are expensive, and take a while to make, but well worth it. Have one in brown and black and wear it almost everyday. Pistol is going nowhere with these beast on.

Used to wear them with a suit everyday. You can make your suit pants stand up with these jokers.

These are the belts I was mentioning. The one I got has no internal stiffener but it is an extremely thick cut piece of leather so over the years it has contoured to my waist.

The quality of mine is amazing

I have worn this belt with everything from jeans to suits pretty much everyday since I got it in 2009. I didn't mean for it to be 'the' belt- but it is comfortable yet stiff. Extremely durable. I just looked up the order date in my email to confirm that it has been 7 years and the leather looks great- with very little maintenance. If I polished it up three-four times that would be about it. The silver buckle has some dings in it that I just noticed because I took it off to look at it. I am a large circumference American, and the holes are still in good shape and it is not warped. Used it with a Raven holster with a M&P9 FS 9mm with an X300 and RMR. The soft velcro on the inside works like a charm and still has all its stick.

I have the non-tapered with the soft velcro on teh inside and it isn't so thick as to not be able to fit into suit pants loopholes.

I almost ordered another one, but then I wondered why I even needed it since this one isn't near the end of its life. The main reason I would order more is in case they stop making them.

I have 3 belts from the Beltman and love them all. I have a 1 1/4" black dress belt from them and it is a bit thick but works for me. I wear it with suits or just dress pants and a nice polo. Overall they do everything I need them to

I always forget to shop at the NRAStore.com which has belts. The last belt I recently bought was from LAPoliceGear.com. For a "dress" belt, I'd be going with a 1.25" instead of my usual 1.5" width.
