sorry this question has probably been asked before but i have a delima. I am tore between a DPMS LR308 OR THE LR 308B. It is going to be used for hunting mostly, also as a secondary sharp shooter's rifle. I have bolt guns but i want a very acurate semi auto rifle and i have no ar15s. this will be my first black rifle so i want to make a good choice, if any other black rifles can stand the riggers of that enviroment. PLEASE let me know so i can make the right decision.

Not to turn you from the .308 if you're set on it, but for the purposes you mentioned, have you thought about an AR chambered in 6.8 SPC?

Some of the advantages of 6.8:
* Adequate caliber to take deer and legal in any state that allows AR-style rifle hunting.

* Ballistics very similar to .308 out to 600 yards

* Much lighter recoiling than .308.

* Can be used on existing AR-15 platform (unlike a .308 AR), which means that you could buy ONE AR-15 lower with your 6.8 upper, and later get other AR-15 uppers chambered in 5.56, 6.8, or whatever. Much more flexible and interchangeable.

I nearly bought a .308-type AR myself recently, and then was convinced by doing some research that for ME, at least, the 6.8 was a better option. You might want to check out DocGKR's posts (about the excellent performance of 6.8) in this recent thread:

Also, see contrasting views on 6.8 and .308 in this thread:

Good luck, whatever you get!
