Both about 6.6 inches, both about 18 ounces, both use the 51T, on paper they sound the same to me.

Anyone shot both and can tell me what the difference is?

Which one's got the better/newer technology?

The SD is newer, but I think the technology created reduced production cost not necessarily a better suppressor. The M2k is rated at a lower db reduction.

It is rated at a HIGHER decibel reduction... Which is what I think you meant.

Yes, higher reduction, lower db.

The m42k has the latest and greatest baffle tech. Still not really beaten since setting the standard in 2008.

The SD. I think the stack is optimized for low machine time and less exotic material to reduce the cost of manufacture and the retail price

I own the SD and have shot the M42K with the same gun/ammo.. I can hardly tell the difference in sound but the M42K is supposed to be 2-3 dB quieter. If I recall correctly both baffle stacks are made out of Inconel.

I'm read somewhere the 556SD was a redesign of the older M4 1000 to bring in a lower cost option to the market with similar specs as the M42K.

I'm about 1000 rounds through the SD at this time with no complaints.

I have been very pleased with my M4-2000. Abused the heck out of it on a full-auto M16 to the point of burning off the Cerekote. Keeps chugging right along.

Thats good to know....Just bought a M4-2000 myself. Thing seems tiny compared to my 30 cal can. Just waiting for the paper to clear now tho......

A bunch of my buddies bought the 556SD. I have an M42K. I'm curious to see the difference when their cans are out of jail.

I was told baffles are machined a bit differently to save time in machining with the SD, same as the body of the can.

Biggest difference might be first round is louder with the SD. Both are inconel baffles, both cans will survive nuclear holocaust.

They are good cans. I have owned a few for many years. And just bought 2 more with no hesitation.

My understand echos the statements of those above.

Improved machine capabilities bring the cost of manufacture to a lower price point.

AAC's MSRP's have really come down quite a bit recently also, so the price gap isn't that large any longer.

When the M42K was selling for over $850, I paid $479 for my 556SD.

I've got shooting buddies that own M42K's and have shot them beside my 556SD.

We couldn't distinguish a difference shooting similar length barrels with the same ammo.
