View Full Version : Sling cleanup

Here's a little trick I use to clean up and streamline the ends of my slings. Electrical shrinkwrap tubing works great. I use 1 1/8" wrap, and lube it with a little hand sanitizer to get it over the buckles. Just thought id share it with u guys.
Just curious, but why do you do that?
I dont like the dangling sling end poking out. Also prevents slippage of the sling through the buckle.

I'm kinda digging it. Tightens things up, might reduce some clanging.
Yeah, it makes for less snags. It also makes the connection to the qd sling loop a little more solid.
A solution in search of a problem, I'd say.
Looks good. To each their own. I think it is a fine idea if it's what you want. It doesn't add weight, accomplishes your goal and those slings are on good rifles- rock on. Haters gonna hate.

I do something similar but with just electrical tape. I dig it.

Looks like another fine example of Yankee ingenuity.

OP, Thanks for the post. That trick may come in useful at some point.
I like it. Much cleaner than what I used to do with electrical tape on my gear.
Thanks guys! The ones on the sling with the HK hooks have been there for several years, and are still tight and in good shape. I just like solidity and permanence of it. I actually thought about having the ends just sewn on.

I hate tape on stuff. Today's tape is tomorrow's gooey, sticky and yet slippery mess. Or stiff, powdery no-longer-holding mess.
Not that I never use it, I just hate it. I like your idea plus probably cuts the noise.
Much as I hate tape I hate HK hooks even more!
I don't like hk hooks very much either. That's the sling I use on my AKs.

I like it. I favor HK sling hooks to my handguards and have used smaller diameter heat shrink tube on the hook itself to minimize rattling against Magpul RSA and MSA attachments.

That works. There are also a couple sources for the elastic sling keepers out there as well.

Nice work OP. I think I might try that on one end that has frayed after I cut the excess off.
Good idea! I'm definitely doing this on mine.
I prefer gaffers tape. It's less sticky than duct tape and softer too. Kind of a woven fabric backing with medium stickiness. You can take it on and off a few times if you need to make adjustments.
