View Full Version : Need gas block advice
First AR and post here. I brought a new AR, http://shop.bravocompanymfg.com/Bravo-Company-MFG-BCM-MID-16-Mod-2-AR15-Carbine-p/bcm-carbine-750-133.htm , and realized I need a scope. I did switch out the mid-length quad rail for a MOE.
My question is: Can I swap the front sight post for a low-profile gas block and keep the MOE, and will the gas block look as nice as the rifle?

Before you do that, do you know what power of scope you are getting? You will not see the front sight post with a 4x optic
I'm looking at a Trijicon 1-4X24 Accupower and I prefer a low mounted scope.
I have a mid length rifle with a 1-4 MTAC scope. The front sight base doesn't bother me at 1x and is barely visible at 4x.
Can I see some pics of ARs with both a scope and front sights?

This is an old setup - scope moved to another rifle and now running a red dot but here's what it looked like when installed. The front sight was never an issue.
Leupold Mark AR Mod 1 Fire Dot SPR 1.5 - 4X 20mm. (https://www.leupold.com/hunting-shooting/scopes/mark-ar-riflescopes/mark-ar-mod-1-1-5-4x20mm/) The mount is an AMD Recon QD. (https://www.americandefensemanufacturing.com/view/product/5/)

Hope this helps.

Although the eye might not see the front sight through the scope, the front sight is still blocking the scope. The amount of light let in the scope is reduced and if the front sight is as tall or taller than the center of the reticle, it will make it harder, or even impossible, to hold a precise sight picture. You can't get around the laws of physics.
Just cut down the front sight and enjoy the full field of view of your optic

MistWolf speaks the truth. Although your eye may cancel out the front sight with a magnified optic, it's still there and will block light and may affect your shooting. What works for one person may not work for everyone. Good luck!
