Probably should be taken with a grain of salt. Assuming the video of the Russian's captured gear is genuine, what does it say about this particular AK-74? Is that a Western buttstock or some sort of Russian version?:

ISIS has claimed to have killed five Russian soldiers during fighting in the ancient city of Palmyra in Syria.
In a statement, the group also said it killed several members of the Lebanese Shiite Hezbollah group and fighters belonging to the Syrian armed forces.
It claimed: 'The soldiers of the caliphate, by the grace of God, have killed five Russian soldiers and six members of the Syrian army.'

Interesting, kind of looks like a MagPul stock. Dude was rocking multicam as well.

Russian SOF (or Spetsnaz, if you prefer) have been rocking AKs with varying levels of Westernization and Multicam for years. I can think of no reason why the photographs might not be genuine.

If true they would not be shy about showing the bodies.

Yeah, I'm thinking these are the same people who burned a Jordanian pilot alive in a cage.

There have been pics on the net for several years now of FSB Alpha members wearing MC and sporting Western accessories on their highly customized AKs.

Larry Vickers has done an episode on his show with some of these guys when he was visiting Russia and has built an Alpha clone off of an SLR-106CR.
